Stars: Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, Genelle Williams, Allison Scagliotti, Aaron Ashmore, Jaime Murray, Ashley Williams Writer: Ian Stokes Director: Chris Fisher Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 9 PM Airdate: August 15, 2011 Well, from last weeks’ more serious WAREHOUSE 13 that spanned centuries with one artifact, we move to a somewhat sillier episode this week, “Don’t Hate the Player.” The basic premise is one we’ve seen before on most science-fiction series’, sooner or later, the video game that is some form of immersive virtual reality that is so real it kills. This version for WAREHOUSE is a somewhat lighter […]Read On »

TV Review: EUREKA – Season 4 – “Reprise”

Colin Ferguson and Felicia Day in EUREKA - Season 4 - "Reprse" | ©2011 Syfy/Eike Schroter

Stars: Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Niall Matter, Tembi Locke, Kavan Smith, Felicia Day, Trevor Jackson, Debrah Farantino Writer: Amy Berg Director: Matt Hastings Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 8 PM Airdate: July 18, 2011 Episodes of EUREKA can approach THE USUAL SUSPECTS in structural complexity, with a lot of individual actions affecting one another until calamity erupts. This is the case in “Reprise,” which is both entertaining and suspenseful – and also intentionally very funny. When visiting Department of Defense scientist Holly (Felicia Day) hits town, she is clearly hyper-bright but also so nervously chatty […]Read On »

Despite the long time the show has been gone (barring the Christmas special), “Liftoff” is actually the beginning of the second half of Season Four, rather than the premiere of Season Five. As such, it begins on a cheery note, with just about all of the main characters in a state of reasonable contentment. The first note […]Read On »

ASSIGNMENT X recently got a few moments alone with Syfy Channel’s President of Original Programming Mark Stern to ask him about a few Syfy series, namely SANCTUARY, EUREKA and WAREHOUSE 13, plus the much-discussed THREE INCHES pilot. Here’s what he had to say. ASSIGNMENT X: SANCTUARY just started up the second half of its third season. Is that on track for perhaps another season, or are you looking at how Season Four does? MARK STERN: They’re working on this [fourth] season, they just started, so we’re really early. We’re just starting to get that first batch of scripts together. AX: […]Read On »

TV Review: EUREKA – Season 4 – “O Little Town”

Colin Ferguson and Erica Cerra in EUREKA - Season 4 - "Oh Little Town" | ©2010 NBC Universal

From its one-off holiday title sequence to the series-specific jokes about fruitcake (and of course the fruitcake does come to menace the town’s inhabitants), “O Little Town” is a uniquely EUREKA Christmas episode. Some plot elements are a bit too wacky even for EUREKA, which is why we get the framing device of Jack (Colin Ferguson) telling four cynical snowbound kids of a Yuletide when it was unseasonably sweltering in Eureka. The town’s electromagnetic shield has gone haywire, trapping everybody inside. Taggart (Matt Frewer) is visiting town in an actual flying sleigh, determined to find Santa, while at Global Dynamics, an energy project gone amok and Taggart’s gift-shrinking technology are causing the town to get smaller and smaller. On the upside, there’s a Secret Santa running around, giving everyone the perfect present. Who can it be? Maybe … Santa?
