The Dork Side: A FESTIVUS for the rest of us

JERSEY SHORE | ©2010 MTV

I don’t really celebrate Christmas. I’m not a Grinch or anything. I’m just more a Festivus girl. If you don’t know what Festivus is then … wait, really? You don’t know what Festivus is? If you don’t know then you probably don’t have Internet and you are probably not reading this so I will move along. I have put up my Festivus pole, and I plan to wrestle with the head of the household for the feats of strength. The head of our household is our wiener dog, Homer, so that shouldn’t be too hard. But my favorite part of […]Read On »

The Dork Side: To be or not to 3-D?

AVATAR - IMAX movie poster | © 2009 20th Century Fox

I blame AVATAR for this whole thing. AVATAR, you owe the world an apology. You came out last year with the most amazing 3-D and now every crapsterpiece movie that comes out is in 3-D. Sure, there were movies that did 3-D before AVATAR, and some of them did it well (CORALINE). But ever since AVATAR the movie studios have started releasing even more movies in 3-D hoping to capture some of those unobtainum dollars. But, really, none of those movies put in the time, effort and money to look as great as the 3-D in AVATAR did. Don’t believe […]Read On »

The Dork Side: Bristol Palin RUINS America

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas on DANCING WITH THE STARS (11-22-10) |© ABC/Adam Larkey

Welcome to ASSIGNMENT X’s newest weekly column THE DORK SIDE written by Sonia Mansfield, which will tackle all things geek from a humorous perspective. Apparently, if Bristol Palin wins DANCING WITH THE STARS then the terrorists have won. That’s the impression I’m getting from all the media coverage anyway. There are a lot of things I don’t care about. My top 3 right now are JERSEY SHORE, 3-D movies and DANCING WITH THE STARS. Yeah, I said it. I don’t care about DANCING WITH THE STARS. Make sure to report me to the Pop Culture Police. I really don’t care. […]Read On »

Sonia connects it to the current wave of sexual harassment and abuse allegations, and Chris thinks it’s good Coen Brothers fan fiction. In our second segment, Peter Brown, associate editor of Assignment X, joins us to talk about the new AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR trailer. Someone’s going to die in this one, huh? We make our predictions. And finally, we end our show with what we’re dorking out about, including Sam Rockwell’s dancing and, well, what the focus of Dorking Out with Chris and Sonia should be in 2018. Hey there, dorks. In today’s episode we talk about the Golden Globe nominations. Apparently, GET OUT is a comedy now. Best Motion Picture, Drama “Call Me by Your Name” “Dunkirk” “The Post” “The Shape of Water” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy “The Disaster Artist” “Get Out” “The Greatest […]Read On »

Dorking Out – Episode 69: The Battle of the Sexes and Star Trek Discovery Edition

Dorking Out Podcast | © 2017 Dorking Out Show

Hey there, dorks. In this week’s episode, we offer a few recommendations for horror movies to watch during the scariest month of the year. We are joined by Anthony C. Ferrante, director of BOO, HEADLESS HORSEMAN and the SHARKNADO movies, Ryan Mitchelle, director of JESUS BRO and Peter Brown, associate editor of Assignment X. We each picked a horror movie favorite, and most of the movies were released between 1982-1983. Only one of us picked a movie outside of those years. You’ll never guess who it was. In our second segment, Chris and Sonia review BATTLE OF THE SEXES, starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell. And finally, […]Read On »

Oh, and somehow this turned into a side-track discussion about Sonia choosing to watch STAR TREK V over STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. And finally, Peter sticks around to talk about the action, the love and all the gross stuff that is episode 2 of GAME OF THRONES. […]Read On »

We’re going to talk about that with Peter Brown from Assignment X. In our second segment, we talk about favorite movies about journalism. Why? Umm, no reason. It has nothing to do with current events. Nope. And finally, we will end our show with what we’re dorking out about this week, including Larry Wilmore’s new podcast and which SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE cast member should run for president.
