Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Ryan Seacrest Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: February 24, 2010 Holy crap if I have to hear J.Lo say “I can’t do this anymore” on AMERICAN IDOL one more time, I’m seriously going to punch someone. How many times must we see the same clip over and over again? They showed it like 20 times on Wednesday leading up to the actual moment and then for the previews for this episode. Then we see it again for what seemed to be a dozen times in the beginning. We get it. […]Read On »COMMENTS (2)
You have access to the Beatles catalog.
We know. You’ve only shoved it down our throats year-after-year and letting us hear some of our favorite songs of all time get butchered again and again.
Yet, instead of taking a different tack and maybe doing a nice U2 night or an Aerosmith night (I mean come on you have Steven Tyler sitting right there), or a Chicago night, or even a freaking Metallica night, we once again get the Beatles.COMMENTS (0)
Cast: Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: February 17, 2011 I really wish that they would have started this year’s AMERICAN IDOL in Hollywood. It would have not only saved me some time in my life, but it would have given us an even greater insight into the whole process of deciding who gets to perform for America and who does not. Don’t get me wrong, I have been more than happy we have gotten as much as we have as we have not had this type of access or […]Read On »COMMENTS (0)
Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: February 16, 2011 As I said last week, one of the things that I always wanted more of from AMERICAN IDOL was more of Hollywood Week. For nine years, they have glossed over the process, giving us just bits and pieces of what these mostly unstable and insecure people go through. That was supposed to change in Season 10, we would get much more of the process and the singing and actually get some talent verses endless amounts of auditions that showcased the […]Read On »COMMENTS (1)
Cast: Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: February 10, 2011 For years I’ve been covering AMERICAN IDOL, most of that time with iF Magazine and then periodically now with AssignmentX. During my tenure as a reviewer of the show whether it be reviews, or features, or lists, or how the show could improve I have rallied for the show to provide us with a better understanding of what happens during Hollywood Week. To give us insight into why someone was chosen over someone that we, as the audience, may have […]Read On »COMMENTS (1)
Was it as odd for you as it was for me watching Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez judge a bunch of normal (and lame) every day people on a reality show last night during the opening episode of AMERICAN IDOL? Both have had good and long careers in the music field in the case of Tyler, and movies and music in the case of J.Lo. So seeing them reduced to doing AI just didn’t seem right. And, yes, I used the word reduced. Make no mistake about it. You can sugar coat it, you can talk about how great of […]Read On »COMMENTS (2)
I am breaking up with someone. We were together for almost 10 years. The first couple of years were great. They were fun, and I really enjoyed our time together. In later years, I started to look at our relationship more like work than fun. I found myself getting frustrated and bored. Sure, we made changes to try to keep things fresh, but ultimately they fell flat. This is really hard for me to say, but I’m sorry, AMERICAN IDOL. I’m just not that into you. I used to love AMERICAN IDOL. I used to watch every glorious minute of […]Read On »COMMENTS (2)
While speaking at today’s Fox Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, AMERICAN IDOL executive producer Nigel Lythgoe explained how the show will help its contestants this year with the new judges and new in-house mentor Jimmy Iovine. “It’s giving the right information to the contestants, so they continue with their journey as an artist,” says Lythgoe. “It’s a lot more searching for that eventual winner, rather than stopping people from getting there. In the past, we may have been accused of putting barriers against them with glib remarks, instead of helping them through the process. At the end of the […]Read On »COMMENTS (0)
What would provoke Jennifer Lopez to join the AMERICAN IDOL judging panel with Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler in its 10th Season? How about helping others? While speaking at today’s Fox Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, Lopez admits she wanted to help up and comers. “In this business where I’ve learned a lot of things, I thought about where else I could put [this experience] to good use and help other artists,” Lopez admits. “We’re not here to break people down, we’re here to help kids move through it. At the end of the day, America is voting. We’re […]Read On »COMMENTS (0)
