A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, TANGLED and TRON: LEGACY will arrive in the 3D Blu-ray format

As HD-3D television sets are looking to become the new “it” thing when it comes to home entertainment, Walt Disney Studios announced today that it’s getting an edge on its competitors with the announcement for their Blu-ray 3D titles for 2011. Fifteen films will be released in the new year with this new format including the animated classics THE LION KING and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as well as this winter’s big hits TRON: LEGACY and TANGLED. Tim Minear served as consulting producer on Season One of DOLLHOUSE and executive producer, with creator Joss Whedon, on Season Two of the short-lived Fox series. DOLLHOUSE, which starred Eliza Dushku as the eventually self-aware Echo, concerned a secret business wherein human “dolls” had their original personalities wiped, to be replaced by whatever sort of persona (spy, lover, mother) high-paying clients wanted for short-term engagements. Spanning the period between 1891-1996, the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress designated 25 new films to their film preservation catalog which includes the second STAR WARS film THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, the comedy AIRPLANE! and the horror film classic THE EXORCIST. It was a very eclectic list that also included Spike Lee’s 1992 bio-pic MALCOLM X and the Robert Altman classic McCABE AND MRS. MILLER. Not everything was obvious. In ABC’s reboot of V, the alien Visitors trying to take over Earth are led by Anna (played by Morena Baccarin), who is a pretty cold customer even by extraterrestrial reptile standards. Like ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS and YOGI BEAR, another beloved animation franchise is getting the live action/CGI treatment with THE SMURFS. Opening August 3, 2011, the film takes the Smurfs from their safe little village to the mean streets of New York (and our reality). Gargamel is obviously behind it all. Pictures presented the Los Angeles Premiere of YOGI BEAR on December 11th at the Village Theater in Westwood, in Association with Sunswept Entertainment/De Line Pictures Production and Rhythm & Hues. The brown carpet had YOGI BEAR written down the length and the background was decorated like a forest park. Arriving early I got a chance to walk through where the pre-party was to be held.
