Fox’s new series ALCATRAZ, Mondays at 9 PM, is the newest television offering from prolific producer J.J. Abrams. In the show, we learn that the maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island was closed fifty years ago, not for the reasons given to the public, but because all of the inmates disappeared overnight. When they begin showing up in present-day San Francisco, it’s up to a team played by Sam Neill, Sarah Jones, Jorge Garcia (who previously played Hugo “Hurley” Reyes for Abrams on LOST) and Parminder Nagra to track down the out-of-time miscreants and figure out what’s happened. Exclusive Interview: ALCATRAZ star Parminder Nagra gets a piece of the Rock

Ask Parminder Nagre a question about Fox’s new series ALCATRAZ, which airs Mondays at 9 PM, and the actress will burst out laughing. It’s not that she thinks the series is funny, but the idea of being interviewed about it is, since there is almost nothing she’s allowed to say about either the storyline or her character, Lucy Banerjee. ALCATRAZ, executive produced by J.J. Abrams, has an enigmatic island at its center (a plot element Abrams has worked with before), but this time, it’s the site of the infamous maximum security Alcatraz Prison, which closed in 1963. Historically, the prisoners […]Read On »

TV Review: PERSON OF INTEREST – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson in PERSON OF INTEREST - Season 1 | ©2011 CBS/Michael Muller

Stars: Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson, Taraji P. Henson Writer: Jonathan Nolan Director: David Semel Network: CBS, Thursdays @ 9 PM Original Telecast: September 22, 2011 This isn’t (so far as we know) real, but it certainly sounds plausible – what if the government commissioned a tech genius to invent software that could isolate possible terrorist “chatter”? And what if that software included an element that was later discarded, which also picked up indications of non-terrorist crimes about to be committed? So far, so good with writer Jonathan Nolan’s premise (he shares creator status with J.J. Abrams) for PERSON OF INTEREST, […]Read On »

While speaking with John Noble at last week’s Saturn Awards where he took home a Best Supporting Actor prize for his work on the Fox series FRINGE, ASSIGNMENT X caught up with him for this exclusive chat about the forthcoming Season 4. While he was tight-lipped about revealing too many secrets, he did give his thoughts on what he would like to see happen now that Joshua Jackson’s character Peter has ceased to exist on the show after saving the universe in the Season 3 finale. “I haven’t talked to the writers,” Noble admits. “I try to get stuff out […]Read On »

Abrams Distributor: Paramount Release Date: June 10, 2011 SUPER 8 is so uncannily like the kind of movies Steven Spielberg used to make in the late ‘70s and ‘80s that it’s easy to suppose he made this one too – except we’re now in 2011, and Spielberg hasn’t made a movie like this in a good long while. To be fair, Spielberg indeed is a producer here and SUPER 8 comes sailing […]Read On »
