Release Date: July 21, 2023 BARBIE is weird, in a mostly good way. It is pleasingly clever, wonderfully acted, and has perfect production design (by Sarah Greenwood) and even more remarkable costume design (by Jacqueline Durran). BARBIE’s script, by director Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach, is also loaded with ideas that turn over and over and over. There’s comedy, there’s parody, there’s self-satire, there’s […]Read On »

ANCHORMAN 2 - THE LEGEND CONTINUES movie poster | ©2013 Paramount Pictures

Stars: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, Meagan Good, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig Writers: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay Director: Adam McKay Release Date: December 18, 2013 Distributor: Paramount Pictures It’s a given that it’s getting harder to create funny mainstream comedies with the bar so heavily skewed in the direction of lowest common denominator crass, potty humor. CD Review: CASA DE MI PADRE soundtrack

CASA DE MI PADRE soundtrack | ©2012 Lakeshore Records

It’s one thing to do a clever spoof of an inane genre, but it’s a whole other feat to pull off a soundtrack that’s at once the real musical deal (en Espanol no less) while letting the listener know its tongue is firmly planted in its ear. Will Ferrell’s hilarious “Mexican” movie pulls this feat off on all fronts, particularly with this song/ score compilation that leads with the one-two punch of having Kris Kristoferson’s narration jump into Christina Aguilera’s full-blast title ballad. The earnest, well-produced tune jokes keep on coming, from El Puma’s Spanish spin on “A Whiter Shade […]Read On »
