In WGN America’s Wednesday night drama UNDERGROUND, it’s 1857 and the Underground Railroad, which shepherds people to freedom (key “conductor” Harriet Tubman is replacing Andrew Jackson on U.S. currency) is still in its formative days. Seven black people have escaped from the Macon plantation. Miss Ernestine, played by Amirah Vann, is a slave in charge of the Macon household.
