Remember when the original PLANET OF THE APES came out in 1968? No? Well, it was hailed at the time for, among other things, its social satire. Talking apes could say and do things that, had humans been depicted doing the same, could have really annoyed some folks. Later, ALIEN NATION grappled with some of these things in the same way, and STAR TREK gave […]Read On »

BREAKING IN concerns Contra Security, a firm that is hired to test various security systems by performing the title action. Created and executive-produced by Adam F. Goldberg and Seth Gordon, the new Wednesday night half-hour comedy on Fox features a troupe of deft comedic young actors as the Contra employees. Christian Slater plays their somewhat mysterious and prankish boss, Oz, who likes to surround himself with eclectic objects – for instance, Captain Kirk’s command chair from the bridge of the Enterprise. CD Review: STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER – Limited Edition

STAR TREK V soundtrack | ©2010 La La Land Records

La La Land continues to show long-needed love to great soundtracks from undeservedly maligned sequels, in this case the one where William Shatner assumed both the com, and the director’s chair to have the Enterprise find the all-mighty. Though a lot of this EST-centric probing ended up having its share of goofy moments, the film more often than not did a powerful job of returning the series to its metaphoric sci-fi roots. At today’s Winter TCA session for Fox, executive producer Brannon Braga says the reason for the two-hour premiere was due to “too much story.” “We struggled for a long time how to fit it all in into 60 pages,” says Braga. “There was a meeting with the network […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Actress Donna Murphy is TANGLED in Mother Gothel’s wicked ways

Mother Gothel in TANGLED | © 2010 Walt Disney Pictures

One of the most delicious aspects of the new hit Disney animated film TANGLED was the creation of Mother Gothel. Stealing away Rapunzel from her Royal parents at a young age (so she could tap into the girl’s magical hair to stay young forever), Gothel is a wonderful creation filled with malicious intent, mass contradictions, misguided motherly love and of course, the expert knack for breaking into show-stopping songs. Breathing the character to life vocally is Broadway actress Donna Murphy (SPIDER-MAN 2, STAR TREK: INSURRECTION) who talked with ASSIGNMENT X in this exclusive interview about the Disney process and her […]Read On »
