COSMOS, the nonfiction series devoted to science and space exploration, originally premiered in 1980. Initially the brainchild of astrophysicist/author Carl Sagan and author/filmmaker Ann Druyan [who married one another after the first series], COSMOS was revived by National Geographic Channel in 2014, with a subtitle, as COSMOS: A SPACETIME ODYSSEY. Now National Geographic brings back the multi-Emmy-winning COSMOS as part of its STORYTELLING UNLEASHED programming as COSMOS: POSSIBLE WORLDS, airing Monday nights. Seth Gabel plays famed historical figure Cotton Mather, publicly a staunch Puritan who is privately caught up in all manner of illicit doings. Shane West is sneezing, but he explains he hasn’t picked up the cold that’s affected a lot of people in the vicinity. “Oh, no. I have a beard that’s been driving me crazy. I haven’t had a beard like this ever, I think, in my life. And it’s fine, it’s great for the role, but I’m consistently all of a sudden sneezing and my nose is scratchy always. SALEM, WGN America’s first scripted dramatic series, airing Sundays at 10 PM, deals with the suspicions of witchcraft in that colony during the late seventeenth century. In series creators Adam Simon and Brannon Braga’s version of events, witches are real, very scary – and have a gift for framing other people for their sometimes bloody deeds.
