TV Review: THE BORGIAS – Season 1 – “Lucrezia’s Wedding”

Stars: Jeremy Irons, François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Colm Feore, David Oakes, Derek Jacobi, Joanne Whalley Writer: Neil Jordan Director: Simon Cellan Jones Network: Showtime, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: April 17th, 2010 THE BORGIAS has officially slowed down to an agonizing pace. The rest of the season will determine whether or not I decide to watch the second season (if there is a second season). I am sad to say this has become a show that I find myself needing busy work to putter with so I can kind of stay focused, otherwise the urge to get up and wander […]Read On »

TV Review: CAMELOT – Season 1 – “Lady of the Lake”

Eva Green in CAMELOT - Season 1 - "Lady of the Lake" | ©2010 Ka Productins Ltd. / T5 Camelot Productions Inc.

Stars: Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Claire Forlani Writer: Louise Fox & Chris Chibnall Director: Jeremy Podeswa Network: Starz, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: April 15th, 2010 I had someone complaining to me this week that they wanted CAMELOT to be more like SPARTACUS and less like THE TUDORS. I took offense to that since I really enjoy the series, and find it to be a nice balance of action, plot, and character to keep me interested and to keep the story moving forward at a nice pace. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love SPARTACUS, but I […]Read On »

TV Review: THE BORGIAS – Season 1 – “The Moor”

Lotte Verbeek and Jeremy Irons in THE BORGIAS - Season 1 -"The Moor" | ©2011 Showtime/Jonathan Hession

Stars: Jeremy Irons, François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Colm Feore, David Oakes, Derek Jacobi, Joanne Whalley Writer: Neil Jordan Director: Simon Cellan Jones Network: Showtime, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: April 10th, 2010 THE BORGIAS got off to such a promising start with the two hour premiere on Showtime, that I was a little bit concerned where the series would go from there. So much history involving the world’s “first” crime family still has to be covered, but it just depends on how writer Neil Jordan decides to tackle it. The third episode, “The Moor” still adds more pieces to the […]Read On »

TV Review: CAMELOT – Season 1 – “Guinevere”

Jamie Campbell Bower and Tamsin Egerton in CAMELOT - Season 1 - "Guinevere" | ©2010 KA Productions Ltd. / T5 Camelot Productions Inc.

Stars: Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Claire Forlani, James Purefoy Writer: Louise Fox, Story by Chris Chibnall & Louise Fox Director: Jeremy Podeswa Network: Starz, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: April 8th, 2010 Still one of the best series on TV, CAMELOT proved that once again with the new episode entitled “Guinevere.” CAMELOT involves tales of young King Arthur (Jamie Campbell Bower), and his rise to become one the most powerful and important Kings England has even known. He is of course helped on this journey by Merlin (Joseph Fiennes), and set in direct opposition to them is […]Read On »

TV Review: THE BORGIAS – Season 1 – “The Poisoned Chalice” / “The Assassin” – Series Premiere

THE BORGIAS poster | ©2011 Showtime

Stars: Jeremy Irons, François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Colm Feore, David Oakes, Derek Jacobi, Joanne Whalley Writer: Neil Jordan Director: Neil Jordan Network: Showtime, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: April 3rd, 2010 Just because a series is a period drama doesn’t mean that it’s an instant win with me. I’ve supported a lot of different period shows over the last several years such as, DEADWOOD, ROME, SPARTACUS, and more recently CAMELOT. Now Showtime is bringing us the story of THE BORGIAS, one of the first ‘crime’ families known in history. THE BORGIAS is something akin to THE TUDORS, in the fact […]Read On »

TV Review: CAMELOT – Season 1 – “The Sword and the Crown”

Jamie Campbell Bower in CAMELOT - Season 1 | ©2011 Starz

Stars: Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Claire Forlani, James Purefoy Writer: Chris Chibnall Director: Ciaran Donnelly Network: Starz, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: April 1st, 2010 I’m still thoroughly enjoying one of the more original series on TV, with the second episode of CAMELOT entitled “The Sword and the Crown.” This series moves incredibly fast, in fact a lot faster than most period television. I don’t know if it’s due to budget or number of episodes ordered, but this show is MOVING. Arthur (Jamie Campbell Bower) just found out in the pilot that he was the only make […]Read On »

TV Review: CAMELOT- Season One- “Pilot”

CAMELOT poster - Season 1 | ©2011 Starz

Stars: Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Claire Forlani, James Purefoy Writer: Chris Chibnall, Story by Michael Herst & Chris Chibnall Director: Ciaran Donnelly Network: Starz, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 25th, 2010 There have been so many screen versions of the Arthurian Legend, you can barely count them on your fingers. They range in status from movies with Sean Connery to TV miniseries starring Julianna Margulies, to cartoons by Walt Disney, yet each one has had something new to give to the legend, whether it is the story told from a new point of view, or one […]Read On »

Interview: Timothy Olyphant is JUSTIFIED on his FX series

Timothy Olyphant in JUSTIFIED - Season 2 | ©2011 FX

JUSTIFIED,  based on the work of Elmore Leonard and follows the travails of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, played by Timothy Olyphant. After a, well, justified shooting in Miami, Raylan is transferred (against his wishes) back to the place where he grew up, Harlan County, Kentucky. It’s not the big city, but to say life isn’t dull would be putting it mildly. The FX series begins its second season tonight at 10 and star Olyphant is unmistakably happy about the series’ success and his work on it. ASSIGNMENT X: Would you say you’re going through a law enforcement phase in your […]Read On »
