The Dork Side: Donald Trump is not running for president (we hope)

Donald Trump in THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE | ©NBC/Virginia Sherwood

I don’t believe that Donald Trump is really running for president. If he was he would have already launched a reality show in which people compete to be his running mate. I think we can all agree that Gary Busey would totally win that one. Still, when people talk about Donald Trump running for president I cringe. Why? Because people are saying they would actually vote for him. Normally, something this ridiculous would make me laugh out loud like the time my friend tried to convince me that McDonald’s oatmeal is healthy – except I live in the state that […]Read On »

In HBO’s eagerly anticipated new series GAME OF THRONES (which debuts tonight), based on George R.R. Martin’s novels about the mythical land of Westeros, many clans vie for power in a medieval setting – the Lannister family is among the most dominant forces in the story. Peter Dinklage plays Tyrion Lannister, one of that bloodline’s complex scions. Dinklage talks with us about his adventures in Martin’s fantastical yet oh-so-human terrain. ASSIGNMENT X: Were you a fan of George R.R. Martin’s books before you become involved? PETER DINKLAGE: Yeah. I read the first one and I loved it, and that was […]Read On »

CD Review: DOCTOR WHO: SERIES 5 – Original Soundtrack

DOCTOR WHO: SERIES 5 soundtrack | ©2011 Silva Screen Records

Where some other hugely popular sci-fi series are basically stuck in time and space, DOCTOR WHO is blessed by its ability to jump all over the two in an English phone booth. That’s been a particular mitzvah to composer Murray Gold since he jumped aboard the TARDIS’ sassy reboot so many series ago. Now the CD hand strikes 5 with a two-disc compilation that continues to show off WHO scoring as the Gold standard when it comes to some of the most delightfully inventive TV scoring in any one’s universe, music that mostly packs a rambunctious sense of joy to […]Read On »

CD Review: MEGAFORCE soundtrack

MEGAFORCE Soundtrack | ©2011 Buysoundtrax

Sure there’s THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, but Barry Bostwick’s most outrageous exercise in retro-camp might just be 1982’s MEGAFORCE, a proto-G.I. JOE exercise in souped-up spandex do-gooding, blessed with extra oh-so ’80’s musical oomph by composer Jerrold Immel. Immel had the macho sound of TV scoring down with the likes of HARRY O and POLICE WOMAN when America’s first line of motorized defense came knocking at his studio in the tight-fitted form of Bostwick as “Ace” Hunter. Immel rose to the not-too-serious challenge with the rocking synth pads that any connoisseur of the decade’s action cheese would dig- “dated” […]Read On »

In CBS’s new Friday-night fairly lighthearted action series CHAOS, a team of four CIA agents often buck their bureaucratic bosses in order to cut through the red tape and just save people who need saving. TV Review: SMALLVILLE – Season 10 – “Kent”

John Schneider in SMALLVILLE - Season 10 - "Kent" | ©2011 The CW/Jack Rowand

Starring: Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman Writer: Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders from a story by Genevieve Sparling Director: Jeannot Szwarc Network: The CW, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: April 15, 2011 With five episodes left of the entire series run of SMALLVILLE, it looks like every episode is counting. With “Kent,” it turns out to be a particularly emotional and strong Season 10 entry that pays off the alternate universe story points we previously saw in “Luthor” where Clark Kent (Tom Welling) was raised by Lionel Luthor and became a super baddie. Clark Luthor (or AltClark […]Read On »

With movies and TV fascinated with superheroes, it’s about time someone looked at the other side of being superhuman – namely the human side of things. That’s what the new Syfy series ALPHAS (debuting in July) hopes to accomplish. Created by X-MEN and THE AVENGERS scribe Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, the series follows five ordinary people who end up forming an extraordinary team helping out the Department of Defense. “I think superheroes have a lot of trouble on TV in general,” admits Penn while speaking today at NBC’s Summer Press Day 2011 in Pasadena, CA. “This show, from its […]Read On »
