With NBC’s music competition series THE VOICE adding a Fall cycle in addition to a Spring cycle, the question arises can the show sustain its ratings and not over-saturate itself. At today’s NBCUniversal Summer 2012 Press Tour, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt addressed these concerns saying every network partakes in this practice to some extent – particularly with their most popular series. “Almost every reality franchise does two cycles a season,” observes Greenblatt. “And one could argue that AMERICAN IDOL and THE X FACTOR are the same show in many respects with one in the Fall and one in the […]Read On »

Two weeks ago, the FRINGE actors and executive producer J.H. Wyman descended upon Comic-Con to give the scoop on FRINGE Season 5. While they were tight-lipped about giving away any major spoilers, today at the Fox Summer TCA Press Tour, executive producer spoke about how he wanted to end FRINGE Season 5 – and it won’t be open-ended. “I’m not interested in anything open ended,” Wyman admits. “It would cause me frustration. I wouldn’t be satisfied. Here’s what’s really cool about FRINGE, and one of the things we did do right — the way we chose to tell the story, […]Read On »

Breaking News: The scoop on GLEE Season 4 and how it will balance Ohio and New York storylines – TCA 2012

With GLEE entering its fourth season with storylines set in Ohio and New York, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly reveals this new structure has worked out quite nicely with the three scripts he’s read so far. “I’m very happy with how seamless it is,” says Reilly. “There is a thematic linkage between the two. I think it’s going to be an event for fun for the audience not knowing who is going to show up when. We have a core of returning character we will be servicing every week and limited deals with some actors joining here or there.” Reilly […]Read On »

While Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly admits that the network has history of cancelling low-rated genre shows despite huge fan bases, he admitted today at the Fox Summer TCA Press Tour that he was pleased he was able to give FRINGE a final 13-episode Season 5 send-off. “I don’t like to pull the plug on any show, and many of our failed shows have millions of fans,” says Reilly. “We have a checkered history with genre at best, because we’re one of the only networks who have consistently tried genre. FRINGE has a particular fan base and the FRINGE producers […]Read On »

Early in the day at Fox’s 2012 Summer TCA Press Tour, AMERICAN IDOL producer Nigel Lythgoe spoke about the judge turnover on the show with Steven Tyler out and Jennifer Lopez saying he hoped Lopez would stay. “I was really upset to hear of Steven leaving us and the possibility of Jennifer leaving us,” says Lythgoe. “She did say 99 percent she was leaving. It’s a strange thing to say 99 percent – you’re either leaving or not leaving. I’m hoping that one percent she’s not leaving. Two hours later and that 99% turned into 100% confirmation from Fox Entertainment […]Read On »
