It’s always tough to hear about the passing of an actor from a beloved TV series or movie, but when that person is as young as Andy Whitfield, it makes things all the more tragic. The 39-year old actor best known for playing Spartacus in the hit Starz series SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer 18 months ago which delayed the start of Season 2 of the series. He went through treatment, but it went into remission and returned. Ultimately, he lost this battle and passed away on Sunday in his home of Sydney, Australia leaving […]Read On »

Season 2 of SPARTACUS (dubbed SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE) is a half a year away from debuting, but creator and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight says the new season will outdo things that have already been seen in BLOOD & SAND and GODS OF THE ARENA. Part of this stems from the show getting out of the gladiator arena and sending the slaves on the run. “It’s exponentially more difficult and gigantic,” says DeKnight while speaking at today’s 2011 TCA session for Starz. “I ship the scripts off to [producer] Robert Tapert and dump a huge problem on his table. I’m always […]Read On »

SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA has ended a trifle happier than one would guess from the previous season of BLOOD AND SAND. True the six episode series was bookended with death, but that doesn’t mean the story within didn’t have a bit of a happy ending. Steven S. DeKnight, series creator and executive producer,  has had a blast writing within the world of SPARTACUS and was more than happy to  re-visit favorite characters and the Ludus of Batiatus once more. ASSIGNMENT X got to chat this week with DeKnight now that the second season has ended and we picked his […]Read On »
