Just 17 spots remained to complete the 48 AMERICA’S GOT TALENT finalists moving on to Hollywood for the show’s sixth season. The tension was also high as the standbys were ready, well, most of them. There were the usual suspects in attendance: the magicians, the kid acts, the dancers, the dangerous acts and the singers. By the end of the evening over half of them were sent home by Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne and the rest were ecstatic jumping for joy.
Only two of the five magicians made it through. Without a much needed polished touch, the other three’s journey ended. Harder to judge were the kid acts. I mean how do you tell a six- year-old giving it all he’s got that he isn’t moving on. Heartbreaking, indeed. I must say I couldn’t help but cry when Lil’ T was told to go home, as were the kid tap dancing duo.
The trio of little girls who sing exactly like the Chipettes, a beautiful and very mature sounding 11-year-old singer and a very soulful and smooth girl performer made the cut, deservingly so. Of the novelty acts, the yo-yo teen and the comedic juggler were the only two to be given the ok to Hollywood. All three of the dancers were sent on though – including two troupes – one male, one female and Sam B the most entertaining dancer with, let’s just say, his very own style.
The dangerous acts that made it were the girl on the tightrope jumping high in the air and landing back on that very rope and the stunt bikers who made Osbourne squirm every time they jumped over their fellow comrade in the act.
Four of the six singers got the go ahead, including Mauricio the Costa Rican with a flair like Ricky Martin and the look of Javier Bardem in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, only with a smile on his face. A very touching moment came when Daniel Joseph Baker (picture Liberace with jerry curls) made it. His emotion was pure and his vindication clear.
At the end of the show Baker told all those who teased him in school to kiss his fat ass…cause he’s going to Hollywood. You tell them! Now show them! Onto Hollywood! Stay tuned!
