AMERICA’S GOT TALENT’s finals are finished! It’s all over. And now America will chose the winner of AGT Season Six. The last four acts have completed their AGT journey and now all they can do is wait ‘til tomorrow to see the results. Their destiny awaits them, although there is a really good chance that all four acts will win. Not necessarily the coveted AGT award, but an award to a fruitful and rewarding future of doing what they already do so very, very well.

Sadly, it looks as though PopLyfe will be counting on just that tomorrow night. Their performance tonight was just too much for the teens to handle. And their pick of a very difficult Queen song may have done them in. On the flip side, Silhouettes and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. exploded on stage and did exactly what they needed to do to take home the AGT prize. Team iLuminate lived up to their acclaim, although they seemed just one step behind Silhouettes and Murphy, Jr. in terms of deserving the top prize. But, it’s America who votes. Who will win? Just one more day!

Silhouettes (dance troupe)
The Colorado based troupe is a beautifully constructed visual pleasure to watch, bringing art and emotion together magnificently. They are incredibly poignant storytellers.
Piers Morgan: You saved the best for last.
Sharon Osbourne: Inspirational!
Howie Mandel: We love it!
Harland: What can I say? They brought tears to my eyes.
Chances of winning: Great

PopLyfe (rock band)
The six of them seem like kids playing dress up but their sound is anything but child’s play. From Oakland, the group of teens have proven to be a worthy talent whether or not their take home the big prize.
Morgan: Don’t be disheartened by your performance.
Osbourne: Your singing wasn’t great tonight.
Mandel: You were a little off.
Harland: The Queen song just was too big for them. They were undone by a very difficult song and sadly it showcased their weaknesses.
Chances of getting through: Slim

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. (singer)
Originally from West Virginia, Murphy, Jr., up until recently, worked at a car wash. At 19, he was homeless until he found his way off the streets and into the arms of a loving wife. Now, he is a family man on his way to great stardom.
Morgan: What a moment!
Osbourne: It was perfectly sung.
Mandel: There’s a really good chance that you just sealed the deal.
Harland: He gave me chills! His way is definitely my way!
Chances winning: Great

Team iLuminate (florescent dance group)
Based in Los Angeles, the team has come into this competition well prepared for a chance at hitting it big with their unique visuals.
Morgan: You are exactly what America needs right now.
Osbourne: It’s ground breaking what you do.
Mandel: This is spectacular!
Harland: Although some of their visuals appear to not always work, their performance was definitely worthy of the finals.
Chances of winning: Good

That’s it! AGT is all over but the shouting. Now all that’s left is a talent-packed finale and the announcement of the Season Six AMERICA’S GOT TALENT winner. If I were to bet on a winner, I would put my money somewhere between Silhouettes and Landau Murphy, Jr. We shall see. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: And the winner is …

  1. Impossible to find fault in the decision between Lem and Sil.

Both are feel good stories. I believe the final 4 or 5 eliminations were more about the publics response to a genre of talent, than to the degree of skill shown by the performer.

TI and S, were equally proficient, relative to LEM, but the countries preference for singers has followed form.

Heres a factoid from the contests fine print. Landau will receive $950k less than the much ballyhoed million dollar . It turns out the winner gets 1/20th of the million per year for 20 years. Had silhouettes won the performers would have pocketed roughly $2000 a year for 20 years.

Congratulations LEM, and big thanks to Pamela for a great blog.

  2. I agree with your assessments, although I think some of the acts were done in by the atrocious camera work this year. Team iLluminate defintitely was hurt by this, as it was very difficult to tell what they were doing as the camera angles jumped all around.

  3. I love to see people from such humble beginnings like Landau do so well on a show like AGT. There are so many talented people out there that have been down on their luck like Ted Williams. He used to be a radio station DJ and then he was homeless as was Landau when he was 19. When I started watching AGT I discovered it when I logged into my employee account on dishonline.com. I love that it helps me get my TV watching done when I have time to kill rather than taking time away from my family when I get home because it’s always there waiting for me when I have time to watch.
