Chol Soo Lee was a young Korean immigrant living in San Francisco’s Chinatown when he was arrested on June 7, 1973, and subsequently convicted, for the murder of Yip Yee Tak. While in prison, Lee was given the death penalty for the killing of a fellow inmate, although Lee claimed self-defense. In June of 1977, reporter K.W.
