While speaking to the press at Wondercon, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt spoke about starring in the new sci-fi film LOOPER helmed by Rian Johnson (BRICK) and how he gets to play a younger version of Bruce Willis.

In the film, time travel exists and Joe (Gordon-Levitt) is a hired gun for the mob to clean up messes until his future self (Willis) is hired to rub him out.

“I was basing my character on him,” says Gordon-Levitt. “I watched his movies. I would take the audio out of the movies and put it on my iPod to listen to it. I got to hang out with him, have dinner with him, have conversations and get to know him. It was a fascinating challenge. I didn’t want to do an impression of him. First of all, I’m not a good impersonator. It’s not a comedy. It’s creating a character that was more him than me. I also had special make-up effects every morning for three hours. It’s not my face in the mirror every day and to see someone else’s face – it’s a dream for an actor.”

LOOPER  hits theaters September 28, 2012
