The new ABC drama series NASHVILLE, which is set in the world of Nashville music features Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere as country music artists – one who has been around for a long time and another climbing up the charts.
While at ABC’s Summer 2012 Press Tour, Britton and Panettiere spoke about the similarities their characters may have to artists like Reba McEntire and Taylor Swift, but confirm that the characters of Rayna Jaymes and Juliette Barnes are very different.
“I ran into Reba McEntire on a plane and she said, ‘did you hear they said you were playing me on your so,'” recalls Britton who feels there’s very little Reba in her role aside from the red hair. “For me it’s really an amalgam of a lot of different people. I think it’s really fun to take from that sort of palette and let this character merge. I don’t have any one person I’m basing it on.”
Panettiere agrees, and says that the Swift comparisons are unfair.
“I hear the Taylor Swift thing quite a bit,” says Panettiere. “Aside from being around the same age, blonde and not even the height – it’s very different. And I think, once you see her and get to know Juliette, you’ll see that. I think Taylor would disagree whole-heartedly. She’s much nicer than my character.”
