Marcelo Zarvos scores for the FENCES – Interview

FENCES | ©2016 Paramount Pictures

A distinctive, and prolific voice in Hollywood since arriving from his native Brazil, Marcelo Zarvos has created any number of musically explosive dramatic incidents – among them CELL‘s zombie-making phone calls, the murderous bad cop behavior of BROOKLYN’S FINEST and BEASTLY‘s groovily hip take on a fairy tale as old as time. A frequent collaborator with director Barry Levinson from the found footage parasitic horrors of THE BAY to PHIL SPECTOR‘s record producer gone mad, as well as a go-to composer for Showtime series like RAY DONAVAN, THE C WORD and THE AFFAIR. Marcelo Zarvos’ eclectic resume is no busier than when dealing with relationships in all of their […]Read On »

CD Review: THE FACE OF LOVE soundtrack

THE FACE OF LOVE soundtrack | ©2014 Varese Sarabande Records

With a real talent for playing intimate orchestral emotion, Marcelo Zarvos is making a name for himself when it comes to psychological dramas from THE BEAVER to THE WORDS and even the sweetly pokey scoring for ENOUGH SAID (now out as a Varese limited edition). It’s a feeling for the mysterious nature of human relationships that gets a Hitchcockian treatment as Annette Benning’s widow suffers a non-lethal case of vertigo after becoming enamored with a dead ringer for her husband. Going for the kind of richly emphatic, strongly theme-driven emotion that other composer’s might fear to tread in, Zarvos captures […]Read On »

Interview: Composer Marcelo Zarvos hears THE WORDS

THE WORDS soundtrack | ©2012 Lakeshore Records

THE WORDS is one such tale (or multiple tales) of young Rory Jansen (Bradley Cooper), whose prized novel is unmasked for another’s when the real Old Man author (Jeremy Irons) comes calling. CD review: BEASTLY score soundtrack

BEASTLY score soundtrack | ©2011 Lakeshore Records

Composing in musical footsteps where Alan Menken (aka Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Georges Auric and Lee Holdridge didn’t fear to tread, rising composer Marcelo Zarvos has written what might be the most unexpectedly pleasant score to accompany a tale as seemingly old as time. His sprightly, alt. stylings of BEASTLY are especially happy given the Goth advertising that’s accompanied this tween update, which throws the characters into a magical high school setting. Zarvos strikes an often lilting, if not sometimes downright pokey mix between lush strings, tender piano playing and subtle rock stylings. Rather than his music reflecting a […]Read On »
