It was a bittersweet night for writer/executive producer James Duff. THE CLOSER, the series Duff created starring Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Leigh Johnson, a Southerner who comes to Los Angeles to be Deputy Chief of the LAPD, finished its seven-year run last night on TNT. Immediately afterwards, the new series Duff created, MAJOR CRIMES, headed up by Mary McDonnell reprising her CLOSER character of former Internal Affairs operative Sharon Raydor and featuring much of THE CLOSER’s cast, had its series premiere on TNT. TCA News: First News on THE CLOSER spin-off MAJOR CRIMES

At today’s TCA press tour for the Turner networks, details on the new THE CLOSER spin-off for TNT was announced. The series will be called MAJOR CRIMES and will pick up directly where THE CLOSER leaves off. “THE CLOSER concentrated solely on getting a confessions, this is about getting convictions,” says Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Cast members returning from THE CLOSER to the new show include Mary McDonnell (Captain Sharon Raydor), G.W. Warner Bros. held the Los Angeles World Premiere of GREEN LANTERN June 15th at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Fans were everywhere you looked as Hollywood Boulevard was closed to traffic. Hoping to catch the stars of the movie, which is based upon the characters appearing in the comic book published by DC Comics.  They were not disappointed as Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and others signed autographs and posed for pictures with them. TNT presented the premiere screening of DreamWorks Television and Executive Producer Steven Spielberg’s brand new series FALLING SKIES on June 13th at the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theater in West Hollywood. In FALLING SKIES aliens have invaded Earth in military force. People have gone into hiding to escape the aliens and find themselves doing extraordinary things to survive.
