Extremely fit tough guy John Cena is the host of Discovery/Discovery+ Channel’s SHARK WEEK, running this year from Sunday, July 7 through Saturday, July 13. We didn’t get to ask him about the premise of the episode 6000 LB. SHARK, which at first glance seems like it might be about shark obesity. However, Tom “the Blowfish” Hird got on Zoom with Assignment X to talk about the episode. Hird, who describes himself as “the world’s only heavy-metal marine biologist,” is originally from Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. A prolific diver, Hird’s writings include the book BLOWFISH’S OCEANOPEDIEA: 291 EXTRAORDINARY THINGS YOU […]Read On »

It’s certainly a place with lovely forests and beaches, as well as gorgeous seascapes. At the start, we see a small boat moored within swimming distance of the shore. Gentle reggae music is playing. The deck has bathing suits drying on the clothesline, empty bottles and, uh-oh, a fraying rope. […]Read On »

Movie Review: 47 METERS DOWN

47 METERS DOWN poster | ©2017 Dimension Films

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Claire Holt, Mandy Moore, Matthew Modine Writers: Johannes Roberts & Ernest Riera Director: Johannes Roberts Distributor: Dimension Films/Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures Release Date: June 16, 2017  The original JAWS is rightly a classic, but since then audiences have learned to be wary of shark movies. SHARKNADO gonzo parody aside, they can be a cheesy bunch, with 2004’s destabilizing OPEN WATER a rare exception. Well, surprise. 47 METERS DOWN has most of the makings of a first-rate horror movie: a plausible set-up, multiple sources of jeopardy, an environment that’s terrifying all on its own, ace special effects and […]Read On »

Stars: Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gray, Murray Hamilton Writers: Peter Benchley, Carl Gottlieb based on the novel by Peter Benchley Director: Steven Spielberg Suggested Retail Price: $29.98 For those of us who have lived through the VHS incarnations, the DVD versions and the super special remastered DVD versions of our favorite movies, the excitement level for new format re-releases does feel anti-climactic at times. That said, there are still a few movies that get the kid-at-heart excited especially when it comes to a Blu-ray release. The STAR WARS saga, the INDIANA JONES films and now, well JAWS. […]Read On »
