In the annals of ass-monster movies, BAD MILO comes across as a terrific rush – pardon the unavoidable metaphors. Not nearly the gross-out fiesta its premise of a dooty Dark Half might imply in its admittedly hilarious trailer, this production of director Jacob Vaughan (THE CASSIDY KIDS) and the usually sedate mumblecore directors / producers Jay and Mark Duplass (BAGHEAD), BAD MILO is far more of an update of tragic WOLFMAN mythos, as crossed with the satire of OFFICE SPACE, the reproductive angst of THIRTYSOMETHING and any number of post-EST self-help psychiatry sessions. Adult Swim’s CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, now in its third season, is a show of almost indescribably strange scripted comedy. Ken Marino (pronounced “Meh-REE-no”) plays Dr. Glenn Richie, one of the strange members of staff. Marino is also known to TV viewers as private detective Vinnie Van Lowe on VERONICA MARS, often stymied catering worker Ron Donald on PARTY DOWN, and Tony, single gay demon adoptive father of a human baby, on REAPER. The thin line between the web and television is slowly going away, as the hilarious short-form comedy series CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL began as a web series and migrated over to Adult Swim. Created by Rob Corddry who also plays Blake Downs, the clown-faced surgeon, the series sends up medical dramas with absurdist surrealism. The third season of the show arrives tonight on Adult Swim.
