CRIMSON PEAK highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Release for Feb. 9, 2016

CRIMSON PEAK | © 2016 Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

A slow week, which is probably to be expected after such a huge roll out of films and TV last week. Unfortunately, not that great of stuff but sometimes that’s how it goes. Movies: CRIMSON PEAK – There is something to be said about ghost movies and period pieces. They sometimes work and can be fairly amazing to look at. On the other hand, it risks becoming too bloated with so many costumes and crazy beautiful images that it derails the storyline. CRIMSON PEAK, unfortunately, falls into this category. It is a beautiful movie with vivid images, costumes, set pieces […]Read On »

Movie Review: DEADPOOL

DEADPOOL | © 2016 20th Century Fox

Rating: R Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. DEADPOOL does that, and thereafter reliably supplies humor, romance, hardcore violence, a wee bit of horror (depending on your definition), Marvel Comics mythology and assaults on the fourth wall that magically don’t compromise the […]Read On »

BRIDGE OF SPIES highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Release for Feb. 2, 2016

BRIDGE OF SPIES | © 2016 Disney Home Video

Yeah, so a lot of stuff this week. Beginning of the month is usually a packed one but this week is crazy (and time consuming on my part). So check out what’s available on video this week. Movies: BRIDGE OF SPIES – During the height of the Cold War just before the Soviets erected the wall in East Berlin, a Russian spy is taken captive and put on trial for crimes against the U.S. An insurance attorney (Tom Hanks) is brought in to give him a proper defense but given the time it was anything but fair and he is […]Read On »

Interview: Composer Stephen Raynor-Endelman banks on MADOFF

MADOFF | ©2016 ABC

Few English composers have gotten to score the stylistic extremes of America like the creatively and physically pugnacious Stephen Raynor-Endelman, a musician of all emotional trades if there ever was one. A musical prodigy who’d write two operas by the wage of 18, Endelman moved to New York to start fulfilling a movie scoring career with such individualistic, eccentric scores as HOUSEHOLD SAINTS, POSTCARDS FROM AMERICA and IMAGINARY CRIMES. His music depicting rough and tumble lives with humanity to spare before going back to the British and Irish isles with the romantic comedy, and fatherly drama of THE ENGLISHMAN WHO […]Read On »

GOOSEBUMPS highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for Jan. 26, 2016

GOOSEBUMPS | © 2016 Fox Home Entertainment

The last week of the month in video releases are either jam packed or slim pickings, the latter is the case this week but there is still some decent stuff to check out. Movies: GOOSEBUMPS – Now usually when you take a fan-favorite children’s franchise, slap it with high amounts of CG and an all-star cast everyone gets their panties in a bunch about ruining their childhood or driving a stake through the heart of whatever was left of the history. But GOOSEBUMPS the movie was actually wildly well received by critics and fans alike. Maybe that’s because they didn’t […]Read On »

Business is picking up in the video realm with some good stuff out this week and things will continue to get better in the coming weeks as studios get over the holiday hangover of virtually nothing coming out. Movies: STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON – We have seen a number of docudramas come out regarding the rise to fame of some of the most famous rock groups out there but the back stories of the rap world (except for maybe Eminem) have gone without any documentation. But now we get the behind-the-scenes look at one of the most famous rap groups of […]Read On »

Movie Review: THE 5TH WAVE

THE 5TH WAVE movie poster | ©2016 Columbia Pictures

This said, THE 5TH WAVE has the benefits of moving at a fast […]Read On »

Blu-ray and DVD titles for the week of Jan. 12, 2016

THE MARTIAN | © 2016 Fox Home Entertainment

The early weeks of the New Year aren’t that exciting normally so what we get on video isn’t normally that exciting either. However, there are still some stuff that are worthwhile checking out. Movies: THE MARTIAN – The hilarious comedy THE MARTIAN that just won for best Comedy/Musical movie at the Golden Globes makes it way to video this week. Wait, OK, let’s just be honest. There’s no way this is considered a comedy other than to get the award in the category. Are there funny moments? Definitely. Is it a comedy? Not a chance. Matt Damon stars as an […]Read On »
