In RESIDENT ALIEN, which has its series/Season 4 finale Friday August 8 and is thereafter available in its entirety on Peacock, Jenna Lamia plays Judy Cooper. Despite being alcoholic and extremely needy, Judy is a remarkably adaptive Jill-of-all-trades in the small mountain town of Patience, Colorado, where Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle (Alan Tudyk) is secretly an extraterrestrial.

Lamia has a wide-ranging resume herself as not only an actor, but also a writer and producer. On RESIDENT ALIEN, she wrote the teleplays for the Season 2 episodes “Girls’ Night” and “Harry, A Parent.” Lamia also created, produces and is the showrunner on the series THE PERFECT COUPLE. Other writing/producing credits include MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM, NO TOMORROW, GOOD GIRLS, and AWKWARD.

As an actor, some of Lamia’s other credits include the series OZ and the films HAPPY END, THE FIGHTER, and THE CALL.

At the premiere for RESIDENT ALIEN’s fourth season at West Hollywood’s London Hotel, Lamia wears a dress adorned with colorful 3D fabric flowers. Complimented on her attire, Lamia says, “Thank you. I thought it was very Judy-esque.”

Does Lamia know how many different jobs Judy has had over the seasons? “The total is like seven at this point, so there’s one that the audience maybe doesn’t know about yet, or maybe we’ll never know about. You’ve got to have your secrets.”

Judy seems to be willing to do anything, and able to do whatever is asked of her.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Lamia confirms.

She sees this aspect of Judy as something that’s also in herself. “It’s not that far from real life. I tend to jump and ask questions later,” Lamia laughs. “I think Judy has no sense of trying to impress other people, for lack of a better word. She’s never fake. She’s always herself, for better or worse. So, if it’s like, I don’t want to say any spoilers, but if someone needs a hamburger flipped, she can do that. If someone needs a lawn re-seeded, she’ll say she can do it and figure out how, or maybe do it badly and pretend it’s done and spray-paint the grass green. If you need a ninety-degree angle, she’s there. She’ll figure it out. She surprises with her skills.”

What does Lamia think would be Judy’s ideal job? Lamia won’t reveal it, but hints, “I think we see her do it this season. I think she’d be a good medium as well, someone who talks to dead people.”

As Judy imbibes liquor in prodigious quantities, has Lamia had chart how inebriated the character is at any particular time?

“It’s a pretty steady line. It’s up here.” Lamia gestures to her forehead. “But this year, it gets even higher, and antics ensue. In Episode 6 [‘Soul Providers’], she may tie a few extra on. We’ll see what happens when that happens. There’s photo evidence, there’s a little nudity, but that’s not new. She took a bath with a Sphinx cat last year, so …”

Asked how she thinks Judy would react to the fact that there are aliens in Patience, Lamia replies, “I think secretly she’s known all along. Maybe she doesn’t know that Harry is an alien, but that if you told her that the man who had just gotten up out of her bed and left in the morning was an alien, I don’t think she’d have a big reaction. I think she knows they’re here, and they’re just waiting to full disclosure, but it’s imminent, and she might be a little alien herself. I’ve been pushing the writers for that.”

Told that Sara Tomko, who plays Asta, has been pushing for a musical episode, Lamia says, “I love that. I want a movie. I want a RESIDENT ALIEN feature film, so we can really get that budget to show Harry’s planet and make some of the other aliens that we haven’t met yet, and expand the world in ways that are visually exciting.”

And what would Lamia most like people to know about RESIDENT ALIEN Season 4?

“Season 4 is where we really start to see the way the humans around Harry are also becoming more human as he does. He’s learning the good and bad of both sides of humanity, and the people around him are, too. So, we’re settling in with our supporting cast and seeing the way that Harry’s presence in the town has changed them for the better. And I think the audience will feel ready for that.”
