TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 8 – “Sacrifice” – SEASON FINALE

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard, Osric Chau, Kim Rhodes, Amanda Tapping, Curtis Armstrong, Alaina Huffman Writer: Jeremy Carver, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Wednesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: May 15, 2013 A lot happens in SUPERNATURAL’s Season 8 closer “Sacrifice.” Probably the best and most satisfying thing that occurs is, for once, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) put each other ahead of the quest. There is also the near-humanization of Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), some intriguing reversals and an Aziz Ansari shout-out. On the other hand, […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 8 – “Clip Show”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Curtis Armstrong, Alaina Huffman, Taylor Cole, Graham Wardle, Donnelly Rhodes Writer: Andrew Dabb, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Thomas J. Wright Network: The CW, Wednesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: May 8, 2013 The term “clip show” generally refers to an episode of a (usually long-running) television series that uses clips from older shows to back up a story told in less-than-usual new footage. Well, credit SUPERNATURAL for doing things differently in an episode entitled “Clip Show.” There are brief clips of older episodes (check out Sam’s hair!), but they […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Darkness on the Edge of Town”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett Writer:  Drew Z. Greenberg & Wendy Mericle Director: John Behring Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: May 8, 2013 ARROW is normally at its strongest when it operates in shades of grey, but “Darkness on the Edge of Town” gives us a black & white, good vs. evil battle between Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman).  This is not necessarily a bad thing, though, because, while both men are hood-wearing vigilantes […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “The Undertaking”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett Writer:  Jake Coburn & Lana Cho Director: Michael Schultz Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: May 1, 2013 ARROW surprises a little this week by revealing the entire conspiracy that’s driven its narrative throughout its debut season.  With another two episodes remaining, I didn’t expect this big reveal until the season finale, but since what they were revealing was not particularly unexpected, I didn’t have a problem with the refusal to let it continue […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 8 – “Pac-Man Fever”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Felicia Day, Linda Boyd Writer: Robbie Thompson, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Robert Singer Network: The CW, Wednesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: April 24, 2013 Given the entirety of SUPERNATURAL’s seventh season, one might be forgiven for guessing in advance that an episode titled “Pac-Man Fever” would involve the return of the Leviathans. It turns out that “Pac-Man Fever” instead is a loose reference to a videogame that isn’t really a videogame, but rather just a djinn-created offshoot of a recurring nightmare had by Charlie (Felicia Day), which winds up also engulfing Dean […]Read On »

Sheppard, Osric Chau, Ty Olsson, Amanda Tapping, Assaf Cohen Writers: Eugenie Leming-Ross & Brad Buckner, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Guy Norman Bee Network: The CW, Wednesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: March 27, 2013 An appearance from Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer is always a noteworthy event – to paraphrase Art Mullen on JUSTIFIED, speaking of Beaver’s character on that series, let us take a moment to acknowledge this guy is awesome. Bobby died last season, and the boys even burned his bones when his ghost started turning to […]Read On »

TV Review: ARROW – Season 1 – “Unfinished Business”

THE CW logo | ©The CW

Stars:  Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, Colin Donnell, Susanna Thompson, Colin Salmon, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett Writer:   Bryan Q. Miller & Lindsey Allen Director: Michael Offer Network: The CW, airs Wednesday Nights Original Telecast: April 3, 2013 This week’s episode of ARROW doesn’t bludgeon us with unrelenting bleakness the way last week’s did.  In fact, “Unfinished Business” is a fairly slight episode overall, and most of it doesn’t leave much of an impression.  But one thing it did do quite well is continue the difficult conversation it began earlier about the appropriate […]Read On »
