HEAT: DIRECTOR’S DEFINITION EDITION highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for May 9, 2017

HEAT | © 2017 Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Your guide to some of the new releases that are out this week (or perhaps a week ago). HEAT: DIRECTOR’S DEFINITIVE EDITION There are a few movies that just do it for me. RONIN is one because I love the mash-up for characters all doing shady dealings in Europe. HEAT is one of Michael Mann’s best work because it has multiple players doing a variety of heinous crimes and brings together two actors that were (at the time) the top of their game in Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Now, how both of these actors perform today is an […]Read On »

MOANA – Hard to go wrong with any Disney film these days. It seems they always knock it out of the park and that’s the case with MOANA, a wonderful and beautiful film about coming of age, magic and wonder. While most Disney animated titles are usually beautiful, MOANA is that much more because of the great variety of colors from the clear blue ocean to the vivid […]Read On »

DEEPWATER HORIZON highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for Jan. 10, 2017

DEEPWATER HORIZON | © 2017 Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Your guide to some of the new releases that are out this week. DEEPWATER HORIZON – A pretty good action thriller about the well-publicized explosion that happened on a deep sea oil rig known as Deepwater Horizon. Led by an impressive cast including Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Kurt Russell, it does a good job of balancing the action with how the oil companies treat their employees and their property and how it really is about the bottom line. But it also does a good job of tackling the human spirit and how people can do incredible things and […]Read On »

WARCRAFT highlights Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Releases for Sept. 27, 2016

WARCRAFT | © 2016 Universal Home Entertainment

Movies: WARCRAFT – When a movie gets so universally panned by critics and fans alike, you go into it with very low expectations. That probably helped in my viewing of WARCRAFT because shockingly I actually found it not half bad. Yeah, the plot is basic and rambling with dialog and nonsensical elements along with literally nothing being explained other than bad orcs, good humans. But the special effects, which looked atrocious in the trailers, holds up alright and the action sequences are pretty good and at times brutal. But something had to make this become the highest grossing video […]Read On »

Blu-ray Review: THE REVENANT

THE REVENANT | © 2016 Fox Home Entertainment

THE REVENANT is a pretty amazing film from a variety of perspectives. Not only does it capture the beauty of the American Pacific Northwest during winter in the 1820s where pelters are encroaching on Native American territory, but it also captures the harsh and brutality of the wilderness and the danger involved in such endeavors. From the opening sequence that sees the Americans being attacked by a horde of Native Americans in one continuous brutal scene to the escape but not out of hot water yet as the Indians travel to kill the remaining men. Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), […]Read On »

Blu-ray Review: EXPOSED

EXPOSED | © 2016 Lionsgate Home Entertainment

Apparently EXPOSED actually made it to theaters, which after watching it is a bit of a joke to itself. While it may not have made it to the screens in the U.S., it made it to the U.K. where it made $122. You read that right. $122. It could be a lack of promotion, I don’t remember seeing anything about it promoted. Could also be because it sucks on so many levels, no one in their right mind would pay money for it. There are essentially two plotlines going on simultaneously. The first deals with Keanu Reeves character trying to […]Read On »

Movie/VoD Review: AVENGED

AVENGED | © 2015 Uncork'd Entertainment

Cast: Amanda Adrienne, Tom Ardavany, Ronnie Gene Blevins, Brionne Davis, Ed Fletcher, Jason Gurvitz Writer: Michael S. Ojeda Director: Michael S. Ojeda Distributor: Uncork’d Entertainment Rating: Not Rated AVENGED is like a supernatural I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, if that film has a deaf woman that actually dies and begins to rot on her way to killing the men that did her wrong. Oh and if they added a contrived romance plotline that never really takes off during the course of the movie. Zoe (Amanda Adrienne), a deaf girl with a boyfriend that lives far away, decides to go visit […]Read On »

DVD Review: BLACK WATER VAMPIRE

BLACK WATER VAMPIRE | © 2014 Image Entertainment

Cast: Danielle Lozeau, Andrea Monier, Anthony Fanelli, Robin Steffen, Bill Oberst Jr. Writer: Evan Tramel Director: Evan Tramel Distributor: Image Entertainment The first two-thirds of BLACK WATER VAMPIRE are a near re-creation of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, except with a vampire, snow and better camera equipment. Yep, it is another found footage horror flick where a group of four young documentarians investigate four murders of women on the same day over the course of four decades in the Black Water Forest in Washington State. Of course, none of these doomed documentaries ever ends well. As the Black Water killings go, […]Read On »
