Ernie Hudson is currently on three series. In Netflix’s GRACE AND FRANKIE, renewed for a third season, he’s Jacob, the new love interest of Frankie, whose husband Saul (Sam Waterston) left to marry his longtime business partner Robert (Martin Sheen), formerly married to Jane Fonda’s Grace. In Epix’s political satire GRAVES, Hudson plays another Jacob, Jacob Mann, who is an adviser to former U.S. president Richard Graves (Nick Nolte), whose wife Margaret (Sela Ward) has ambitions of her own. 1) The new venue. Once upon a time the LAFF was in Hollywood. The it was in Westwood next to the UCLA campus. Then it was in the LA LIVE center downtown. All three areas managed to dwarf what was going on around it. In Hollywood it didn’t stick out enough from usual Hollywood goings on. At UCLA film goers were over run by campus dwellers (even though it was during Summer break). A truly versatile composer when not superbly cranking out comedy scores like SPY, ZOOLANDER 2 and the forthcoming GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, Theodore Shapiro has shown an inventive affinity for typewriter-clicking drama with TRUMBO and creepily ethereal horror when ogling JENNIFER’S BODY. But it’s with THE INVITATION that Shapiro proves like never before just how unfunny he can be upon entering a suicide cult’s dinner party, as staged by JENNIFER director Karyn Kusma.
