Stars: James Maslow, Danica McKellar,  Meryl Davis, Candace Cameron Bure, Amy Purdy, Charlie White Network: ABC, airs Mondays Original Telecast: May 5th, 2014 The wicked witch of the dance floor – DANCE MOMS‘ Abby Lee Miller –  guest judged on DANCING WITH THE STARS tonight and boy was the tension palpable, especially between Miller and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. But it was clear none of the pros were her fans. Even when she praised the pros she was met with lukewarm gratitude. Why they would bring such a highly chagrined, low-level reality TV star to a show like DWTS is beyond me. […]Read On »

Agent Ward (Brett Dalton) takes a lie detector on AGENTS OF SHIELD | © 2014 ABC/Justin Lubin

Cast: Clark Gregg, Ming-Na wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Iain De Caestecker Director:Vincent Misiano Network: Airs on ABC Tuesdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: April 22, 2014 Well, it certainly seems that MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD has a direction now in terms of the entire mythology of the show (or at least this season) but they are dragging their heels to the finish line as it was shown in “The Light in the Darkness.” Now as cool as it is to think that this would just lead to numerous awesome stories involving the characters we have grown to […]Read On »

CD Review: The Best Scores of 2013 – The Runners-Up

Brian Tyler / NOW YOU SEE ME soundtrack | ©2013 Glassnote

BEYOND TWO SOULS (Lorne Balfe / Sony Entertainment) Though it’s far more of an interactive movie than it is a video game, the negligible level of first-person shooter ability here doesn’t prevent BEYOND TWO SOULS from being a complete immersive experience, especially with the eerie, and rapturous quality of Lorne Balfe’s score, leveled up with the ace technical and musical production oversight of Hans Zimmer. For a heroine seemingly cursed by her lifelong bond to an invisible entity, Balfe conjures a truly beautiful theme, topped with a female voice that resonates with a wounded emotion that binds this powerfully symphonic […]Read On »

CD Review: WYATT EARP: LIMITED EDITION soundtrack

WYATT EARP: LIMITED EDITION soundtrack | ©2013 La La Land Records

Sure, 1993’s TOMBSTONE may have smoked 1994’s WYATT EARP at the box office O.K. Corral, a place where near-simultaneous movies with same subject matter are forced to shoot it out – the spoils usually afforded to the first picture into Dodge City. In this case, TOMBSTONE certainly had it over EARP in terms of length and enjoyability. And its terrific score by SILVERADO‘s Bruce Broughton was certainly a gunslinger to be reckoned with, even more ironically that it was Lawrence Kasdan’s western that truly impacted his composing career. But now with La La Land revealing the epic scope of James […]Read On »

Toronto International Film Festival Travel Tips

When you hit a film festival like Sundance it’s all about the films and the snow. Park City is first and foremost a resort town and if you aren’t resorting you’re just chasing films. Toronto’s film festival is different. It’s Canada’s NYC, Chicago and LA all rolled into one. And this time of the year the weather is fine (it only rained for half a day), the attractions plentiful and the denizens super friendly (it’s the only festival I know of where people seem to enjoy waiting in line). So before you plan next year’s visit consider the following…

Toronto International Film Festival Wrap Up: Part 3 – The Cold

THE UNKNOWN KNOWN | ©2013 Weinstein Company

It’s time to conclude what happened at the Toronto International Film Festival by dividing up the films into three categories. So here are the winners, losers and something in-between so just for fun I’ve broken them down into buzz terms, HOT, WARM and COLD. Part 3: THE COLD (BUZZ+CRITICAL REACTION+AUDIENCE COMMENTS) YOU ARE HERE Road trip comedy drama with Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis CONSENSUS: Writer/director Matthew Weiner’s surprising limp big screen debut. The leads are irritating, the plot so-so, the overall effect dull. Maybe Weiner just too tired after obsessing over every MAD MAN detail. Would make a good […]Read On »
