This is the interesting story of the partnership between rap superstar and producer Dr. Dre and legendary producer Jimmy Iovine. It is an interesting docu-drama showcasing both how both gained their notoriety in the 80s and the 90s through the launch of Dr. Dre’s headphone and speaker business which gained them even more prominence. The series, directed by Allen Hughes, offers some really cool behind-the-scenes look at the recording studios, the homes they started in and into the ginormous mansions once they made their fortune. It is a very interesting series that includes interviews with U2, David Geffen, Eminem, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Snoop Dogg and Bruce Springsteen. If you are fan of music, any music, this is a must watch because of the unlimited access to how these men went about creating their empire.

DEATHDREAM

This is the latest from Blue Underground that takes classic horror and other cult films and gives them a fresh coat of paint in the form of a new 2K restoration from the 35mm negatives, meaning they usually appear as best as they have ever looked. DEATHDREAM, which is also knowns as DEAD OF NIGHT, THE NIGHT WALK and THE NIGHT ANDY CAME HOME, is a homage to the classic THE MONKEY’S PAW tale where a son returns home after a tour in Vietnam. The problem is the family had been told he was killed in the line of duty. When Andy comes home he seems alive and well … well maybe on the surface because in order to keep his body from rotting, Andy has to have blood, which means killing people. But this doesn’t stop his body from slowly decaying throughout the course of this B movie, which still manages to be chilling in some regards. Blue Underground is known for packing these releases with extras and this is no different with two audio commentaries, a retrospective featurette, interviews with the cast and crew, trailers, alternate opening and a collectable booklet.

This is an interesting thriller starring GAME OF THRONES’ Peter Dinklage that centers on the death of a scientist that had created a machine that is able to extract, record and play memories of humans. The scientist’s wife, played by Julia Ormond, cuts off the outside world after the death of her husband until a stranger (Dinklage) shows up and steals the machine in order to solve the mystery behind the scientist’s death. But what is his story and what is driving him? We learn through an investigation of memories Dinklage’s connection to the scientist along with a list of possible killers. This is a slow thriller but Dinklage is very good in it and commands the screen as he usually does, which makes it both interesting and enjoyable. Special features include a featurette on the making of the movie as well as an audio commentary with the director Mark Palansky and Dinklage.

Everyone knows how cool Netflix is. Even before the streaming network started making its own original content, having a database with loads of movies and TV series was pretty damn awesome. Then they started creating their own content resulting in some of the best series on television. However, an added benefit that Netflix has brought with it is resurrecting older series to give them a second life. Nearly a decade after the original series ended, the new series follows how the girls have changed during this time while adding in new story lines with new characters. However, everything seems a bit too simple in terms of the storyline. Maybe it has been too long or they just didn’t know how to write these characters anymore but some of the jokes and plot seems forced. However, for fans it will be enjoyable still to see their favorite characters once again on screen but don’t expect the same type of storytelling.
