At San Diego Comic-Con 2013, Bryan Fuller sat down to discuss the second season of his NBC show HANNIBAL. While he didn’t want to give that much away for fans (and they have yet to begin shooting the second season), he did leave some lasting impressions as to what will be in store for Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) as well as some of the other, uh, interesting aspects.

First, expect to see human sushi in the first episode. Yes, human sushi. Also Season 2 will feature a new aspect to the character of Graham as he recovers from the events of the Season 1 finale.

“Season 2 is a nasty breakup. One of the things I’m most excited about is that we told the story of Will Graham’s decent into madness in the first season, so it is kind of fun to see him hit rock bottom in the last episode,” Fuller said. “Once any human being hits rock bottom, the only choice to go is up. So he is going to come up and he is going to come up swinging in a way that will re-invent the character in a new way. I’m exited to see what Hugh Dancy does with the character now that he is scrappy and feistier and pissed off that someone set him up.”

Will the show be staying at 13 episodes? Yes. “I don’t ever want to do 22 episodes again. When I was doing STAR TREK [THE NEXT GENERATION] we did 26 episodes. You can’t control quality in a way that I think that we need to do Hannibal Lecter. We have to do it well and we have to do it precise with our storytelling because there has been so many incarnations of the character previously that we have to earn it. So having 13 episodes you have to streamline it and we can tell a tighter tale.”
