Sadly SOUTH PARK seems to be struggling during the latter half of Season 16. Joining the awful “Sarastaball” is the latest episode “Insecurity” – a painfully unfunny exercise in randomness.

I sense Trey Parker and Matt Stone are trying for some commentary on how fearful the nation has become since the Colorado shootings at THE DARK KNIGHT RISES screening, but it just doesn’t really work.

Things kick off when Ike sees a UPS man having sex with his mom (what he doesn’t know is his dad playing dress up). When Stan ‘s dad overhears Kyle talking about this, he hooks up with other dads who are convinced the UPS man is having sex with their wives too. So they dress up as Bane from THE DARK KNIGHT RISES are start to harass and beat the UPS man up.

Another throughline includes a security firm that you hire to protect you. If there’s a problem, they call you and send the police over with blankets and cocoa. This goes horrible wrong.

It’s all rather scattershot, with a few amusing asides, but it just doesn’t add up to a complete whole. The jokes are absent and it just feels like one of those episodes that started off with noble ambitions and then slowly got away from them as they tried to crank it out in their seven day time crunch.

SOUTH PARK always has its ups and downs and I thought last week’s “Raising the Bar” was brilliant, unfortunately, if you’re going to be a fan of this show, you have to brave the hits with the misses. Let’s pray “Insecurity” and “Sarcastaball” are the rare misses for a much better rest of the season.

  1. That has to be the most f****** rediculous thing I have ever read. This episode was extremely funny, and actually commented on the way society acts today. It shows us how we suffer from paranoia (obviously not to this extent, but south park is a show that revolves around extreme exaggerations). Overall, this is a very poor review, and I would like to see better ones in the future

YOU ARE HALLUCINATING MY FRIEND. I can’t express my hatred for bloggers and critics enough but this was just a really mindless review. I think you have delusions. SCATTERSHOT? ONE EVENT. LEADING TO ANOTHER. This episode was written very cleverly and just because it didn’t make you cry laughing doesn’t mean anyone with a brain gives to f*** about your garbage blog. F*** ALL OF YOU CRITIC BLOGGERS. I responded very maturely all day to the horrible blogs I’ve read and this one just infuriates me. Its like you people have some kind of psychosis where your minds own negativity guides you into making decisions about things without really analyzing them properly. THEN YOU GOTTA SHARE THAT WITH THE WORLD AND TRY TO RUIN IT FOR OTHER PEOPLE. THATS THE PART THAT MAKES ME DESPISE YOU PEOPLE SO MUCH. GO REVIEW BAD MOVIES. YOU AREN’T QUALIFIED TO REVIEW SOUTH PARK. F*** YOU.

    • I certainly won’t be reading any more pieces from Cortez – ANYBODY named Cortez. That’s how big a waste of sperm this writer is.

[Editor’s Note: Cortez is a bit of a douche … but we have to tolerate him, regardless]

  5. I thought it was hilarious. And your supposed “insight” into what the episode was about – was dead wrong.

  6. It was an amazing episode. forgive this blogger for he knows not what he does.

  7. i have to disagree with you man. i’ve felt like this season has been lacking a bit compared to other seasons but this episode was great.

  8. Don’t really know if you ever did journalism or English in college but you seem totally unable to pick up on the basic theme’s of the episode. Seems just anyone can churn out a review without really any creditably these days. You’re entitled too your opinion but jesus in my opinion this was a horribly short and poorly written review with no insight as to what the problems where. I’d be ashamed to put it on the internet.

  9. this episode was an epic and far better than the last two episodes. reviewer lacked the sense of judging humor.

  10. I’ve loved this season so far! Personally, I think it’s these reviews that are going downhill, not the show.

  11. Couldn’t disagree more. This episode was hilarious, as always! IMO the show just keeps getting better!

    Not worth saying any more.

  13. I’ve heard good and bad things about this episode, but I haven’t watched it yet. I don’t want to dog on you Cortez, but it does seem like the consensus here alone thought this episode was hilarious. Most of the people I work with at DISH liked the episode, so I’ll have to see what it’s all about. It’s still sitting on my Hopper, and I haven’t moved it to my special South Park folder yet, but I plan to if this is a freaking hilarious episode like everyone says it is.
