With Emily (Emily VanCamp) droning on about “Resurrection,” this episode of REVENGE opens with a flashback of young Emily (well, actually Amanda Clarke) riding in a station wagon with her mother Kara (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Young Amanda tells her mother that her daddy said she was sick, but there’s not much of a response and besides, it’s actually a dream and when Nolan (Gabriel Mann) tries to wake Emily up, she chokes him.

Nolan’s stressed that the White Haired Man (James Morrison) is coming after Emily, but Emily’s more concerned that he’s going after Victoria’s daughter Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) who has been falsely imprisoned in drug rehab.

In the meantime, Daniel (Josh Bowman) is trying to figure out why the financials on his father’s company don’t add up, as Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) is trying to convince him to play tennis and otherwise relax. Funny thing is, it turns out that Daniel’s father Conrad (Henry Czerny) has asked Ashley to keep Daniel distracted so that he doesn’t turn up at the investors meeting that day. And just to make things more fun, Emily calls Daniel to give him the heads up that Charlotte’s doctor may be holding her overlong in the hopes of padding his fees – it’s happened before. Of course, the mysterious Aiden (Barry Sloane) is watching Emily

Charlotte is being tested by above skanky doctor and sure enough, he finds her incompetent and Conrad is able to raid her share of the inheritance from Victoria.

But the White Haired Man has a few tricks up his sleeve, as well. He gives Victoria two passports, one for her and one for Charlotte, but threatens both of them. Emily, who can see all of this happening, thanks to the shell cam, decides it’s time to take Charlotte away from her mother since Victoria took her mother away from her.

And we have a new rich kid rival for Declan, Trey Chandler (Michael Nardelli), who smells suspiciously like last season’s skeezy skank Tyler. Oh, and Nolan’s corporation is being audited by the Feds – anybody want to put any money on who’s behind that? – and his employee Padma (Dilshad Valsaria) is pushing him to appoint a Chief Financial Officer. Only Nolan doesn’t want to give up that much control of the company. Actually, as a story line, this one is making no sense whatsoever, so I have to believe it’s going to be important later.

Daniel and Emily arrive separately, but at roughly the same time to rescue Charlotte from the rehab facility, only Charlotte doesn’t buy Daniel’s concern, boots him and goes with Emily. asking her to take Charlotte to her mother.

Just to make things more complicated, Emily calls Amanda (Margarita Levieva) and the two meet, with Emily agreeing to ensure that the results of the paternity test that Amanda is taking will show that Jack (Nick Wechsler) is, indeed, the father of her baby. In exchange, Amanda agrees to meet with Charlotte.

Clarification time – Amanda’s real name is Emily Thorne and Emily’s real name is Amanda Clarke. The two switched names so that Emily can exact revenge on the Graysons, who had her father David Clarke killed and messed with her mother. Problem is, Amanda fell in love with Jack, who thinks she is the real Amanda he grew up with, but he’s in love with Emily, who is the real Amanda he grew up with.

So Emily brings Charlotte to the cabin where Victoria is hiding because everyone else still thinks she’s dead, only Victoria boots Charlotte because Conrad stole her money and Victoria needs cash. Padma comes to Emily’s place to get Nolan to appoint a CFO and Aiden shows up at the investors meeting with Conrad, where Daniel also shows to confront Conrad about Charlotte. Conrad does his normal being mean threat. Except that Victoria calls him – which makes no sense, but we’ll go with it for the time being.

Sure enough, Conrad shows and Victoria wants him to hit her. Turns out, she’s figured out a way to get away from the White Haired Man and get back into her old lifestyle. And Conrad is cooperating, although we don’t know why yet – presumably so Victoria doesn’t rat him out to the Feds.

Ah, but the paternity results are back and it’s Jack’s baby. Only Emily tells Amanda it’s not, but then kind of hints to Nolan that she was fibbing, but how and I have no idea. We’ll go with it that Jack thinks the baby is his, but it probably isn’t.

But then the news is all over Victoria’s rescue from the evil kidnappers and Conrad is saying how he even raided his daughter’s bank account to pay the kidnappers’ every increasing demands. But Daniel has signed over all of his money to Charlotte.

Then Trey visits Declan again, asking him to hold onto a jeweled bracelet for $500. Declan reluctantly agrees and I smell set-up. But Declan never was the sharpest knife in the drawer.

The White Haired Man shows up at Emily’s, apparently he was there when they took Emily’s mother from the mental hospital, but the White Haired Man says he was supposed to kill Emily’s mother and didn’t. Big deal. He’s going to kill Emily and just in the nick of time, gets himself shot in the back by Aiden. And that’s where we leave it.

Gasp, gasp, wheeze, wheeze. With so many stories to service on this show, it’s all getting to be a bit much. Not quite spinning out of control, but getting awfully close.
