With NBC airing the last three episodes of COMMUNITY in a sort of marathon block, it’s hard to grade the episodes fairly. Each week of COMMUNITY is a treat unto itself – and not knowing what’s coming next or what they’re attempting to parody is part of the fun. Watching them in three big lumps (while cool), takes some of the specialness off of it.

That’s why we’ll stick to reviewing the episodes individually – and not trying to pick which one was the best of the three (though, I’ll cheat and say “Digital Estate Planning” was pretty awesome).

For the official “season finale”, COMMUNITY offers up the good (not great) “Introduction to Finality.” After the Chang (Ken Jeong) was overthrown in “The First Chang Dynasty”, Greendale has settled back to normalcy. It’s summer and the gang are finally ready to retake their Biology final.

Of course, trouble is amiss when Subway is no longer part of the food court and Shirley’s sandwich shop is back on. However, Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and Pierce (Chevy Chase) are now squabbling over who is the true owner of her sandwich shop.

This brings Jeff (Joel McHale) back into lawyer-mode to represent Shirley against his old nemesis Alan Connor (Rob Corddry) who is representing Pierce in a quasi-mock legal battle.

Messing things up is Evil Abed (Danny Pudi) who has escaped the Dreamatorium and wants to transform the current timeline into the worst possible timeline (and amputate Jeff’s arm in the process).

And finally, Troy (Donald Glover) is part of the air conditioning repair annex when he discovers he is “the Chosen One.” More weirdness ensues.

“Introduction to Finality” is packed with so many different storylines it would be enough to fill up one standard sitcom. However, COMMUNITY does a commendable job of juggling all these pieces. It’s clear, creator Dan Harmon saw that COMMUNITY might be canceled and tried to have some closure here, but as a true series finale, this would not have sufficed.

Thankfully, a Season 4 is around the corner, with (hopefully) as much of the creative team intact as possible. The end of the episode offered up the Twitter hashtag #sixseasonsandamovie – let’s hope that it’s the most important prophecy regarding the series that comes true.
