With GLEE entering its fourth season with storylines set in Ohio and New York, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly reveals this new structure has worked out quite nicely with the three scripts he’s read so far.

“I’m very happy with how seamless it is,” says Reilly. “There is a thematic linkage between the two. I think it’s going to be an event for fun for the audience not knowing who is going to show up when. We have a core of returning character we will be servicing every week and limited deals with some actors joining here or there.”

Reilly also says this isn’t a rigid formula either and many options were explored as the show evolves in its fourth season.

“When Ryan first introduced the idea of graduating the characters, we thought we would split the season down the middle – half in Ohio the other in New York, but thought it would be jarring,” explains Reilly. “Now there is a seamless back and forth. Some episodes may take place half and half and others just cutting back and forth.”

The other big GLEE change will be its time slot as it moves to Thursday nights at 9:00 after THE X FACTOR. Moving it was a tough decision, but Reilly has been trying to build a four-comedy Tuesday night block for years and feels he finally has to goods to do it with THE MINDY PROJECT, NEW GIRL, BEN AND KATE and RAISING HOPE.

“We’ve been trying to get a base for our comedies to take root and now we’re ready for that four hour comedy block,” says Reilly. “It’s the kind of schedule we would like to see in place for the next couple of years.”
