Well we have at last reached the end of the second season of GLEE. This season had some really high points, and some horribly preachy overdone episodes, but all in all I try to just remember the moments that honestly were amazing. Following on the heels of last week’s episode “Funeral” (which was one of BEST episodes of the series ever…I swear I went through about ten Kleenex) this week was “New York” with the Glee club in NY, NY to perform and compete at Nationals.

So one thing right off the top. I find it incredibly hard to believe that they had no music ready before they even got to NY, and then were able to compose two original songs in a week with full-orchestral background scores. Which of the kids has this amazing song-writing ability? And I’m not talking about writing lyrics – I’m talking about the actual scoring of the song and setting the lyrics to music. Also, let’s not forget the choreography as well (all this, and the girls had time for a pillow fight and haircuts).

The GLEE kids get to do a mash up of Madonna’s “I Love New York” and the classic Sinatra/Gene Kelly song “New York, New York It’s a Wonderful Town”. The result is a song that sounds pretty much like Madonna’s with some extra lyrics – not the best mash-up the series has offered us.

Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) perform a beautiful duet version of “For Good” from WICKED, on the actual WICKED stage in NY, which was a fantastic use of on location shooting for the episode. Kurt and Rachel also had one of my favorite moments of the episode with their BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S re-enactment in front of the store.

Puck (Mark Salling) and the GLEE boys serenade Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel with “Bella Notte” from Walt Disney’s animated classic LADY AND THE TRAMP, which was even done with an accordion (a nice touch). Of course this didn’t bring out two tragic lovebirds back together. I’m starting to think Finn is Bipolar or has something more wrong with him than hormones. He is the on again/off again guy when it comes to who he loves;which I realize is more of a writing problem than a character problem.

Matthew Morrison got in a partial new single off of his solo album which sounded really good entitled “Still Got Tonight.” He has a sort of modern Rick Astley mellow middle of the road sound, and it might just work to launch a solo career separate from GLEE or even his work on Broadway.

Santana (Naya Rivera) has one of the BEST moments of the episode with her Lima Heights adjacent rant in Spanish. It is honestly one of her funniest and finest moments at the same time. In other freak-out news, Quinn (Dianna Agron) went completely CARRIE in the hotel and spilled her plans to ruin nationals and destroy Rachel. She’s gone from a somewhat sympathetic character in season one to a raging bitch in season two, and I really honestly kind of hate the character now.

Charice returned to be the lead vocalist for Vocal Adrenaline with one of her new singles “As Long as You’re There”, which was stunning as usual. It never ceases to amaze me how such a small person can have such a HUGE rich voice.

The two new GLEE songs written just for this episode were fantastic. The power ballad (which I am guessing on these names kids) “Will We Ever?” was one of the best of the series, and every club will more than likely be playing the dance song “Light it up Tonight” this summer whereever you go.

Finally Blaine (Darren Criss) told Kurt he loved him. That made Kurt’s journey for the season complete and a lot of viewers watching that romance blossom very happy! In other romance news who saw Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) coming?! That’s something to follow next year.

The strangest thing is the show just ends abruptly, but I guess that’s all they had to say this season. One more year left before the GLEE kids graduate, so there better be some new blood next season to replace the seniors as they had out into the wild blue yonder.
