At the end of Season Four of CHUCK, we were left hanging with Chuck (Zachary Levi), Sarah (Yvonne Strahovsky) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) going into the private spy business after CIA super agent Clyde Decker (Richard Burgi) shuts down their operation and takes the Intersect – a database filled with all the intel from everywhere that resides in the brain – from Chuck. Then, Chuck’s best bud Morgan (Joshua Gomez) just happens to pick up the specs with the Intersect and gets it downloaded into his head.

Okay. The newlywed Chuck and Sarah, who happen to have inherited a mass fortune from the now dead former bad guy Alexi Volkoff, decides to put it to good use by buying the Buy More, the electronics store that Chuck has used as his cover since he first got the Intersect in Season One, and their Castle hide out underneath. Plus satellite imagery and a few other high-tech, high-end goodies.

The problem is that being your own boss isn’t as easy as Chuck thought. In the opening sequence, Morgan saves their skins, Intersect-style, but destroys the objective – a vase worth a fortune (check out and see if you can find Mark Hamill playing a cameo role). Costs are spiraling out of control. Casey isn’t happy with some of their clientele. And Chuck is having some trouble adjusting to not having the Intersect and feeling a little on the useless side. Not to mention trying to surprise Sarah with the home of her dreams, forgetting that Sarah a) doesn’t like surprises and b) is really good at telling when Chuck is trying to hide something from her.

So enter client number two – a not-so-nice lawyer who got conned in an elaborate Ponzi scheme by Roger Bale (Craig Kilborn). It’s no big deal. First, the team has to get themselves an invite to Bale’s big party, then break into the vault with his computer system, download all the investor accounts, including their own, and get out. In the meantime, Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vic Sahay) are up to another of their scams.

Overall, there’s a lot going on here, and truth be told, I’m not liking Morgan with the Intersect. I keep hoping they’ll find a way to get it back to Chuck or almost anybody on the team except Morgan. It’s not that I don’t like the character – he’s just too much of a doofus to have that kind of major role without coming off as grating. I’m also not thrilled that Bonita Friederancy, who played General Beckman, the CIA overseer of the Intersect program, doesn’t appear to be part of the cast anymore. I liked Beckman.

Alas, Decker is back with us and can’t say more about that without risking a spoiler. Suffice it to say, he’s going to be the lead bad guy this season for reasons that aren’t yet clear. Knowing that this episode is the first of the last 13 of the series, well… I can’t see creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak leaving us on a downer note – that has never been the style for this show, but it does leave room for a lot of suspense.

  3. What the Hell were they thinking making Morgan the Intersect??

    I want to UP CHUCK!!

The Idea that Chuck would have been so dumb as to move
money from the primary account into Roger Bale’s is so season 1. So now we are to belive Deckers has frozen all there accounts. Get Real People..

    Chuck as a target of the Ring makes more sense then the last five minutes os {chuck v zoom.}

  4. I am so very disappointed with Chuck. I have been a huge fan since day one and this is the first time I can honestly say that it sucks!! I hate it when they take the intersect away, they have done this so many times and it is annoying, but to put it into his little sidekick it stupid! It is not believable for one, the character of Morgan has always been that of comic relief and it doesn’t work. I don’t know how many times I started to just cut the show off. I thought that given enough time they would find a way to switch the intersect back to Chuck, unfortunately they did not. If the whole last season is going to be this lame, then good riddens to the show and I wouldn’t bother showing another episode and wasting everyones time. I am just so upset and disappointed, we have gotten four great seasons and I hate to see it end with garbage!

    • Really whats with the hate so what they gave morgan the intersect, it was getting really boring with chuck being it; since in the end i was only being used for combat and was pushed into the backward.

  5. The premiere was okay; but I have to say still not happy about Morgan being the Intersect. I know they want to show another side of Chuck without the intersect as leader of the team; but the show is called CHUCK not MORGAN–I say give the intersect back to CHUCK. Morgan rocks as the best friend – not the intersect.

    jhey
  6. What the hell was that and a lot more to come of Morgan.. no no and no….
they have completly runied the show and if they are gonna take this morgan as intersect character any further then this shows days are numbered…

  7. Lets see how many reasons there are that if this is the direction that the series is taking that they should have ended it at the end of season 4 and said we can’t do it anymore instead of recking the series.

    1. Morgan as the intersect- this is just wrong. They have him acting like a goof.

    2. The intersect in the hands of a private spy business. WHAT!!!

This could have been the greatest season of Chuck ever and they turned it into the worst. NBC should just pull that last 11 episodes and call it quits for this series.

    Just some suggestions:

    1. Put the intersect back into Chuck.

    2. Put the team back into the spy bussiness with the General Beckman as there leader looking for the bad CIA agend Clyde Decker. Finding out that he is the bad guy is much easier to understand than having the good guys (Chuck, Sarah, Casey and even Morgan (NOT as the intersect) playing the bad guys. I hope they change there minds and get this mess straighen out or just take it off the air NOW and let us remember how good the series was and not what it has become – CR@#!

I have watched every episode of Chuck and was even one of the people who wrote to help keep it on the air because it was so good. Now it just sucks.

  8. you guys know chuck will still be the main character, it doesn’t mean he’ll become second to morgan, just because he doesn’t have an intersect

    graydon
  9. wtf stop whining were 3 episodes in, so what he’s not the intersect. AAnd btw having back in the cia would be retarded as it would demonstrate that they’re are no consequences for their actions and it wouldn’t make sense; hell chuck and company should’ve been burned 2 seasons ago for all their violations and reckless behaviour
