If you didn’t watch last night’s 2011 Golden Globe Awards, you probably missed one of the most uncomfortably bizarre telecasts in Globe history.

Host Ricky Gervais skewered the Hollywood elite in ways that clearly made everyone nervous (and a little miffed) in the room. Of course, it was fun and unpredictable, which is why the Globes are inherently more entertainment than the more buttoned down Oscar telecast which arrives a month later, but don’t expect Gervais to be asked back for a third time next year.

As for the winners, there were a few surprises (THE KING’S SPEECH took home only one award), but for the most part, it was pretty much what everyone expected.

Of course, now that TRUE GRIT has become a bonafide success and a critical darling, it makes the Globes a little cock-eyed this year when they shut that film out completely (with zero nods) and gave nominations to inferior films like THE TOURIST and BURLESQUE.

Can’t wait to see how the Oscar’s rectify this one.
