While speaking at today’s Fox Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, the AMERICAN IDOL judges and executive producers spoke about what Season 10 will be like.

The big question, judge Randy Jackson says, has been who of the judges (Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and himself) are going to be the mean one like former judge Simon Cowell.

“I’ve heard a lot of talk of who is going to be the tough one or the mean one,” says Jackson. “You still hear that from all three of us. We give them a full read. If it’s terrible, it’s terrible.”

Jackson says his tact will change a bit this season too. He’s no longer the first judge giving the critique, he’s now in Cowell’s third position seat and will have the final word.

“You’re going to see a more assertive side of the dog,” admits Jackson. “Fewer ‘yo’s,’ maybe more ‘no’s’ and less ‘dogs.’ I think it’s a different kind of panel. My role has definitely changed and going first was difficult to talk over everyone screaming and yelling. It taught me a lot about my judging style. You’re going to like this a lot.”
