It’s hard to believe that the Syfy Channel Saturday night movie originals have been going strong for nine years running, and now their 200th film, SCREAM OF THE BANSHEE, is arriving on the cable network on March 26 at 9pm (ET/PT).

A co-production with After Dark Films, SCREAM OF THE BANSHEE stars Lauren Holly and Lance Henriksen and follows a college professor who opens up a mysterious ancient box that releases a blood-curdling cry as well as the spectral spirit of the Banshee. Once you hear its scream, you’re doomed to die and now the professor, along with her daughter and fellow students, must find a way to stop it before the Banshee comes for them.

The film is directed by Steven C. Miller and scripted by AX co-founder Anthony C. Ferrante (BOO, HOUSE OF BONES) from a story by Ferrante and Jacob Hair.

“Over the years, the growing popularity of Syfy’s original movie franchise has transformed the Syfy Saturday Original Movies into a pop culture staple,” says Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies. “As the largest producer of original movies on television, we’re delighted to be the Saturday night viewing destination for millions of fans of independent sci-fi, creature feature and horror films.”

To honor the 200th film, Syfy.com will launch March Monster Madness which will feature a voting showdown of thirty-two of the network’s most formidable monsters.

According to the press release, “fans will be able to see custom trading cards featuring their favorite monsters, share their votes with friends across social media platforms and enter a sweepstakes to win monster-themed prizes.”
