The mun2 brand of creating bilingual programming is taken to the next logical extension with the first bilingual original series RPM MIAMI debuting May 1.

The series is set in the streets of Miami with struggling young friends finding solace in the racing scene by night.

At today’s NBC Summer Press Day 2011, Flavio Morales, Senior V.P. Programming & Production of mun2 says the time has come for this type of show which will feature both English and Spanish dialogue.

“There are over 50 million Hispanic Latinos in America and they need to be entertained,” says Morales. “They watch AMERICAN IDOL and GREY’S ANATOMY, so the idea of this concept came from the Telemundos Studios. It’s a hybrid to create something unique and with a lot of universal themes.”

Actress Fernanda Romero who plays a Luisa on the show, a young woman with a tortured past, says that “we’re making history here.”

“We’re the first ones to do this,” adds Romero. “This show is bilingual. Both cultures are going to be able to watch it. It’s not all Spanish. It’s half and half. The parts in Spanish is going to be subtitled and it flows. There was nothing like this out there for our generation. It felt like there was a big gap. You watched novellas or American shows. There was nothing for this generation that was craving for a product like this.”
