Matt Ryan stars as John Constantine in CONSTANTINE | © 2014 Quantrell Colbert/NBC

Cast: Matt Ryan, Angelica Celaya, Charles Halford, Harold Perrineau, Michael James Shaw, Emmett J Scanlan Writer: David S. Goyer, Daniel Cerone Director: Neil Marshall Network: Airs on NBC, Fridays @ 10p.m. Original Telecast: Oct. 24, 2014 So CONSTANTINE’s premiere episode isn’t entitled “Pilot” for the reason that the Pilot episode is something completely different than what was delivered in “Non Est Asylum.” Hopefully, for the better. CONSTANTINE is based on the comic book HELLBLAZER (that also spawned a movie of the same name starring Keanu Reeves) about John Constantine, a damned demon hunter and master of the occult that fights …Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “Welcome Home”

Agent Weston (Shawn Ashmore) leaves for his hotel in THE FOLLOWING "Welcome Home" | (c) 2013 David Giesbrecht/FOX

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Annie Parisse, Billy Brown, Valorie Curry, Warren Kole Writers: Amanda Kate Shuman Director: Joshua Butler Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: March 11, 2013 This week’s episode of THE FOLLOWING was space filler while the pieces get set in place for whatever comes next on the show. Perhaps the biggest bit of information we received in “Welcome Home” was the reveal of Roderick (Warren Kole), a small town sheriff and right hand man to Joe Carroll (James Purefoy). While on the outside Roderick seems like a likeable …Read On »

CD Review: MAGIC CITY soundtrack

MAGIC CITY soundtrack | ©2013 Silva Screen Records

When it comes to 60s retro music, few composers have shown an ability to conjure the decade’s diverse vibes like Italy’s Danielle Luppi. He’s rocked with HELL RIDE‘s biker guitars, dropped a martini in the hep jazz of THE WOMAN CHASER and cooed with the psychedelic eroticism of his country’s Shagadelia for the concept album “An Italian Story.” So it’s no surprise to see why Luppi’s been plunked in the middle of a late 50s crime-and-sex ridden Miami hotel for his biggest scoring shot yet in America with the Starz series MAGIC CITY. But what is a shock given the …Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “The Fall”

Valorie Curry in THE FOLLOWING - Season 1 - "The Fall" | ©2013 Fox/David Giesbrecht

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Jeananne Goossen, Billy Brown Writer: Shintaro Shimosawa Director: Marcos Siega Network: Fox, airs Monday nights Original Telecast: February 24, 2013 It’s been awhile since I’ve been thoroughly frustrated with a show that I actually kind of like. THE FOLLOWING has proven to be one of the more interesting and engrossing network shows in some time, yet for all the positives it has going for it (occasional clever writing, Kevin Bacon, a creepy villain), it matches that with character stupidity and plot contrivances that really push how much a viewer can take …Read On »

TV Review: THE FOLLOWING – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Season Premiere

Former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is brought in to track down Joe Carroll in THE FOLLOWING | (c) 2013 Fox

Stars: Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy, Natalie Zea, Shawn Ashmore, Jeananne Goossen, Billy Brown Writers: Kevin Williamson Director: Marcos Siega Network: Airs on Fox, Mondays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 21, 2013 Having watched every episode of the excellent Fox series 24, I wasn’t sure how THE FOLLOWING might follow in its footsteps (if at all) or if it would be an altogether new series. Turns out from the initial “Pilot” episode, it will be a bit of both. First off, THE FOLLOWING appears it won’t be for the faint of heart. There were literally dead bodies everywhere in the …Read On »

TV Review: BONES – Season 8 – “The But in the Joke”

Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz in BONES - Season 8 - "The But in the Joke" | ©2012 Fox/Ray Mickshaw

Stars: David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Michaela Conlin, TJ Thyne, Tamara Taylor, John Francis Daley, Joel David Moore, Jay Paulson, Stephanie Lemelin, Adam Cagley, Eva Simone Fisher Writer: Keith Fogelsong, series created by Hart Hanson, based on the life and writings of Kathy Reichs Director: Ian Toynton Network: Fox, Mondays @ 8 PM Airdate: November 26, 2012 BONES is often deliberately comedic, but in “The But in the Joke,” the script by Keith Fogelsong gets ambitious and examines the nature of comedy. It starts with an agitprop street artist – think Banksy – who goes by Zed (Jay Paulson) attempting to …Read On »

While Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly admits that the network has history of cancelling low-rated genre shows despite huge fan bases, he admitted today at the Fox Summer TCA Press Tour that he was pleased he was able to give FRINGE a final 13-episode Season 5 send-off. “I don’t like to pull the plug on any show, and many of our failed shows have millions of fans,” says Reilly. “We have a checkered history with genre at best, because we’re one of the only networks who have consistently tried genre. FRINGE has a particular fan base and the FRINGE producers …Read On »
