As the SPARTACUS franchise on Staraz comes to its final season with SPARTACUS: WAR OF THE DAMNED, both star Liam McIntyre and executive producer/creator Steven S. DeKnight spoke to the press about the new season at Comic-Con 2012. As Spartacus leads an army into war, DeKnight is particularly excited about more deaths coming our way. “Yes, there are some deaths in the coming season that I have been thinking about for quite awhile,” he admits without naming names. “I can’t even hint at what it is, but it occurs later this season. I will say, we wanted to explore the …Read On »

Interview: MAD MEN star Elisabeth Moss on Peggy and Season 5

Elisabeth Moss in MAD MEN - Season 5 | ©2012 AMC/Frank Ockenfels

AMC’s series MAD MEN, now in its fifth season Sundays at 9 PM, has some things in common with its character Peggy Olson, played by Elisabeth Moss. When MAD MEN, created by Matthew Weiner, began its run in 2007, no one knew that it would turn out to be an award-winning juggernaut. Likewise, when Moss’ Peggy joined the Madison Avenue advertising firm then known as Sterling-Cooper in 1960, no one foresaw that she would become the company’s first female copywriter and one of the strongest people there. Moss has been nominated for the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series three …Read On »

Dustin Clare in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE - "Libertus" | ©2012 Starz

SPARTACUS VENGEANCE has finished cutting a bloody swath across Friday nights on Starz, and the body count left in its wake is a considerable chunk of the recurring cast. Dustin Clare who plays Gannicus luckily was not one of the casualties, and the actor has now done two series of the hit show, VENGEANCE and the prequel series GODS OF THE ARENA. Pre-production has already started on the third season of the show, but ASSIGNMENT X got the chance to chat with Clare about returning to a whole new world in this second season of the on-going series. Exclusive Interview: SPARTACUS VENGEANCE producer on the latest season

Liam McIntyre in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE | ©2012 Starz

Starz Network’s SPARTACUS series, Friday nights at 10 PM, has gone through almost as many tribulations as its legendary hero. The first season, SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND, starred Andy Whitfield as the Thracian warrior sent into slavery and trained as a gladiator, only to turn on his master and free his fellows. Then Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and the production company did a prequel season, SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA, while waiting for Whitfield to recover. Sadly, Whitfield’s cancer returned. He gave his blessing to the producers to recast the role and passed away in September 2011. Liam …Read On »

TV Review: SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE – “Balance”

Katrina Law in SPARTACUS: VENGEANACE | ©2012 Starz

Stars: Lucy Lawless, Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah, Viva Bianca, Craig Parker Writer: Seamus Kevin Fahey, Created by Steven S. DeKnight Director: Jesse Warn Network: STARZ, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: March 16, 2012 I was not a person who initially liked the original SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND. I admit to only having watched the first three-fourths of the pilot (before Lucy Lawless and John Hannah even appeared on screen) and I was so unimpressed that I shut it off and didn’t return to the show until DVD. Once I got into it, I was hooked. I had marathons …Read On »

Manu Bennett in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE | ©2012 Starz

SPARTACUS VENGEANCE is cutting a bloody swath across Friday nights on STARZ, and this second season picks up shortly after the first season BLOOD AND SAND left off. Manu Bennett plays Crixus a Gaul gladiator who was once enslaved by the House of Batiatus to fight to the death for his maters’ amusement. Crixus joins Spartacus’ cause after a betrayal at the end of the last episode of the first season, and he leaves the Ludus to find his lost love Naevia. As this season has proven, nothing is certain even though the former slaves and gladitaors have their freedom. …Read On »

TV Review: SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE – “Sacramentum”

Dustin Clare in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE - "Sacramentum" | ©2012 Starz

Stars: Lucy Lawless, Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah, Viva Bianca, Craig Parker Writer: Seamus Kevin Fahey, Created by Steven S. DeKnight Director: Jesse Warn Network: STARZ, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: March 9, 2012 The pacing of the last couple of SPARTACUS VENGEANCE episodes continues with “Sacramentum”. Instead of just skulking around the woods and killing off Romans (and yes rescuing people when the need calls for it) Spartacus (Liam McIntyre) decides to head to the ports and liberate some warriors who are being sold into slavery. The ship they overtake is full of Agron’s (Daniel Feuerriegel) people, so …Read On »

TV Review: SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE – “Chosen Path”

Steven Dunlevy in SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE - "Chosen Path" | ©2012 Starz

Stars: Lucy Lawless, Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Peter Mensah, Viva Bianca, Craig Parker Writer: Misha Green, Created by Steven S. DeKnight Director: Michael Hurst Network: STARZ, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 24, 2012 “Chosen Path” is an interesting new episode of SPARTACUS VENGEANCE. There’s a lot going on in the wake of the destruction of the gladiatorial arena of Capua, and while some of it is good, a lot seems pretty bad for those involved. Of course the subheading of this episode could be one of my favorite lines from CARNIVALE, “there ain’t no secret to dancing the cooch.” …Read On »
