Weiss, Jay Scherick, David Ronn, Karey Kirkpatrick Director: Raja Gosnell Distributor: Sony Release Date: July 31, 2013 Rarely do I get to sit with my 10-year-old daughter and enjoy a movie equally as much as she does. But, alas, I did just that watching THE SMURFS 2. A fun and tender story about choosing how you want to live your life and that family isn’t necessarily something you are born into. SMURFS 2 opens with the diabolical Gargamel (Hank Azaria) plotting to …Read On »

Paramount’s Insurge Pictures turned Hollywood Boulevard into a concert arena for the Los Angeles Premiere of KATY PERRY: PART OF ME. With a stage built in the middle of the street and the bright pink carpet for Katy Perry and the guests to walk down first before the concert, which was located at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. On top of that over 5,000 screaming fans lined the street to hear the concert, and in the Hollywood/Highland complex fans stood on tables and looked out onto the street. The performance was a part of the Pepsi/Billboard Summer Beats Concert Series. KATY …Read On »

Music Review: The 10 Best Songs of 2011 (Some Brown, a little Perry, People and a whole lot to Gaga over)

Lady Gaga performs on the AMERICAN IDOL Season 10 finale | ©2011 Fox/Michael Becker

It was a pretty eclectic year in music, and that’s reflected with the best songs of 2011. A little Adele, a bit of Kanye and some more than welcome Katy Perry. And what would a year be without a song to go Gaga over. So here’s the ten best songs of 2011. 1. Adele – “Rolling in the Deep” Undeniably powerful, soulful and sincere. Sometimes, with the right lyrics and right vocals, a song just hits home. Read the lyrics if you must, or to feel it’s true impact, simply sing at the top of your lungs, “we could have …Read On »

AMERICAN IDOL Recap: Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo booted in double elimination on Season 10

Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia are voted off on AMERICAN IDOL - Season 10 | ©2011 Fox/Michael Becker

Payoff time on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, but because Casey Abrams was saved last week that means we lose two tonight. So who will it be? Last week was a total 180-degree turn from where the audience had been voting previously, so maybe anything can happen. I am saving you from a decent duet, a bad duet, a horrible quintet, another horrible Ford commercial, a miserable performance from Fantasia, a so-so performance from Jamie Foxx and that douchebag Will.i.am Instead, let’s just get to it. Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery sing first and both are safe for …Read On »

The X List: Assignment X’s Best of 2010 – Albums and Singles

Gaslight Anthem - AMERICAN SLANG

10 FAVORITE ALBUMS (in alphabetical order) Daft Punk – TRON: LEGACY soundtrack There were some great soundtracks this year, but damn, these techno boys created the best John Carpenter/Alan Howarth score that the never wrote. The movie may be polarizing, but this soundtrack will make you appreciate being a user. Frightened Rabbit – THE WINTER OF MIXED DRINKS A wonderful, alternative rock find. A group whose music seeps with angst and emotion, while not sounding mainstream. This is everything Arcade Fire’s THE SUBURBS album should have been. Gaslight Anthem – AMERICAN SLANG A Jersey band with a heavy Boss influence, …Read On »

Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films held the Los Angeles Premiere of THE TEMPEST at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on December 6th. Across the street at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater was the premiere of Paramount’s THE FIGHTER, so needless to say Hollywood was very busy and the street was closed from Highland to Orange for this special night. This was not the first time that two premieres were held almost at the same time, but it was timed so that after I finished shooting THE TEMPEST, I was able to go over and cover THE FIGHTER. Academy Award-nominated Julie …Read On »
