Clark Gregg’s character S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson was first introduced to audiences in the original IRON MAN film. Coulson has subsequently helped superheroes and director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in IRON MAN 2, THOR and in the animated ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series. Coulson was tragically killed by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in writer/director Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS, but he’s back as the team leader on ABC’s AGENTS OF SHIELD, Tuesdays at 8 PM. As viewers of the TV show, created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, learned in the episode “The Magical Place,” Coulson’s resurrection was agonizing, with consequences […]Read On »

Neville has been one of the most interesting characters on the show and his subplot involving a battle of wills with Danny (Graham Rogers) has been one of […]Read On »

Cast: Billy Burke, Tracy Spirdakos, Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Tim Guinee, Elizabeth Mitchell Writer: Anne Cofell Saunders Director: Félix Enríquez Alcalá Network: NBC, airs Mondays @ 10 p.m. Original Telecast: Oct. 8, 2012 The fourth episode of REVOLUTION, “The Plague Dogs,” gave us a breather in terms of the whole Monroe Militia vs. the resistance storyline that beleaguered the show for the past few episodes. The show actually took a direction I had hoped it would take in focusing on maybe some of the people impacted by the changed world – for better or worse – and have […]Read On »

TV Review: REVOLUTION – Season 1 – “No Quarter”

Cast: Billy Burke, Tracy Spirdakos, Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Tim Guinee Writer: Monica Owusu-Breen Director: Sanford Bookstaver Network: NBC, airs Mondays @ 10 p.m. Original Telecast: Oct. 1, 2012 The third episode of REVOLUTION, “No Quarter,” had more poopy sad faces from Charlie (Tracy Spirdakos) than you could shake a stick at. Every scene was a close up of her sad, crying face acting like someone had just kicked her puppy. It was annoying. I understand she is “new to all this” in that she hasn’t been outside her small village until just a few days ago. But […]Read On »

TV Review: REVOLUTION – Season 1 – “Chained Heat”

Cast: Billy Burke, Tracy Spirdakos, Giancarlo Esposito, Zak Orth, David Lyons, Tim Guinee Writer: Eric Kripke Director: Charles Beeson Network: NBC, airs Mondays @ 10 p.m. Original Telecast: Sept. 24, 2012 Well things have certainly come to a grinding halt on REVOLUTION after a very impressive “Pilot” episode where it was wall to wall action and a whole handful of good ideas. “Chained Heat” isn’t nearly as good as the opening episode which seems to sometimes be the case with big opening episodes that are targeted to grab the viewers’ attention and then subsequently falter to deliver in the following […]Read On »

REVOLUTION is the interesting idea from Erik Kripe (SUPERNATURAL), JJ Abrams (LOST, ALIAS) and Jon Favreau (IRON MAN) about […]Read On »

Interview: THE AVENGERS’ Samuel L. Jackson on the fun of a big budget action epic

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in THE AVENGERS | (c) 2012 Fox/Marvel

If you want audiences to know immediately that a character is to be respected, can handle just about anything, will put up with no b.s. and is absolutely cool without having to explain all of the above, your best bet is to just cast Samuel L. Jackson. This isn’t to say that the Washington, D.C.-born actor can’t play tender, confused, vulnerable or pretty much anything else –Jackson has proven his extraordinary versatility many times over on film and on stage – but he’s become big-budget movie shorthand for badass authority. No wonder then that when S.H.I.E.L.D. Initiative Director Nick Fury […]Read On »
