Rating: R Stars: Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Sylvester Stallone (voice), David Dastmachian, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion Writer: James Gunn Director: James Gunn Distributor: Warner Bros. Movie Review: THE BELKO EXPERIMENT

THE BELKO EXPERIMENT | © 2017 Orion

Rating: R Stars: John Gallagher, Tony Goldwyn, Adria Arjona, John C. McGinley, Michael Rooker, Melonie Diaz, James Earl Writer: James Gunn Director: Greg McLean Distributor: Orion Release Date: March 17, 2017 THE BELKO EXPERIMENT has a title that’s reminiscent of THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT. This may not be a coincidence, as THE BELKO EXPERIMENT plays like THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT if the latter tried steroids, then bypassed them and went straight to hemorrhagic fever. For those unfamiliar with it, 2015’s THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT, based on Dr. Philip Zimbardo’s book THE LUCIFER EFFECT, chronicles a real-life event that was supposed […]Read On »

CD Review: DEBUG soundtrack

DEBUG soundtrack | ©2015 Lakeshore Records

While he’s impressed with the jet-fueled thrills of RED SKY and the massively symphonic historical scope of WALKING WITH THE ENEMY, some of Timothy Williams most blazing work has appeared under the company of Tyler Bates’ GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, a score that he also conducted. It’s a sci-fi energy that puts Jones in particularly good solo stead to head into space with a bunch of juvenile delinquent hackers, who discover a particularly devilish mainframe who doesn’t want to be deleted in DEBUG. Though it might not have GUARDIANS‘ budget, filmmaker David Hewlett (most familiar as an actor in the […]Read On »

The Year in Review: The Best Scores of 2014 – The Runner Ups and Composers To Watch

THE BEST SCORES OF 2014 – The Runner Up’s and Composers To Watch BIG BAD WOLVES  (Frank Ilfman / Movie Score Media) Stop me if you’ve heard the same cinematic tune about a perceived miscreant tied into a chair for all manner of mental, and physical torture to be performed upon him. Thankfully, the Israeli breakout film BIG BAD WOLVES whistles the genre song with smashing black-humored suspense, as captured with a thunderous score by Frank Ilfman, who twists a thrillingly mean symphonic knife as he relentlessly veers between frantic action and sly, Herrmann-esque strings as a set-up for ironic, […]Read On »

Yes, the visuals are striking and the jokes are funny, but at first, between self-centered thief Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), extremely angry Gamora (Zoe Saldana), dismissive genetically-modified raccoon Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and walking tree-of-few-words Groot (Vin Diesel), we’re not […]Read On »
