Stars: Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells, Georgia King, Bebe Wood, NeNe Leakes, Ellen Barkin Writer: Mark Kunerth   Director: Ryan Murphy       Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: October 9, 2012 Ryan Murphy is once again at the helm of this new episode of THE NEW NORMAL, and with “Bryanzilla” we have a return to the rigid stereotypes and beating over the head of messages that the series started out as. The idea for the episode is cute but absurd with Shania (Bebe Wood) getting pretend engaged and wanting to have a pretend wedding. Enter Bryan (Andrew Rannells) with clearly plenty of […]Read On »

TV Review: THE NEW NORMAL – Season 1 – “Obama Mama”

Georgia King and Bebe Wood in THE NEW NORMAL - Season 1 - "Obama Mama" | ©2012 NBC/Justin Lubin

Stars: Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells, Georgia King, Bebe Wood, NeNe Leakes, Ellen Barkin Writer: Allison Adler  Director: Scott Ellis      Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: September 25, 2012 It’s interesting to me that the first episode of THE NEW NORMAL, “Obama Mama”, that Ryan Murphy didn’t write and direct is the first episode to really move away from the God awful stereotypes that have been plaguing this show since the pilot. I like the show, but it’s been a big bone of contention for me that every single episode is chock full of cliché stereotypes all across the board, […]Read On »

Stars: Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells, Georgia King, Bebe Wood, NeNe Leakes, Ellen Barkin Writer:  Ryan Murphy & Allison Adler  Director: Ryan Murphy      Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: September 11, 2012 I do like THE NEW NORMAL in spite of myself. I can’t help it. The one-liners are fast and funny, and even though this series does nothing but perpetuate stereotypes to middle America, I still find a lot of it funny — and I hate sitcoms. In my last review I bitched long and loud about the various forms of stereotypes that this show reinforces, and with the […]Read On »

EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, THE EXORCIST and AIRPLANE! get preserved by Library of Congress

STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK | ©1980 LucasFilm Ltd.

Spanning the period between 1891-1996, the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress designated 25 new films to their film preservation catalog which includes the second STAR WARS film THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, the comedy AIRPLANE! and the horror film classic THE EXORCIST. It was a very eclectic list that also included Spike Lee’s 1992 bio-pic MALCOLM X and the Robert Altman classic McCABE AND MRS. MILLER. Not everything was obvious. Included in the mix were some shorts including the George Lucas directed ELECTRONIC LABYRINTH which was the precursor to his feature film THX-1138 and a two-minute 1913 short […]Read On »
