HAWAII FIVE-0, CBS’ sturdy reboot of the original 1968-1980 island cop show, is now on Fridays in its sixth year and renewed for a seventh. Masi Oka joined the cast in the show’s second year as coroner Dr. Max Bergman, who helps McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin), Danny Williams (Scott Caan) and their team investigate crime for the police department in the paradise-like environment. On CBS’s HAWAII FIVE-0, now on Friday nights at 8 PM in its fourth season, Masi Oka’s character Dr. Max Bergman is an asset to the team in terms of both knowledge and humor. The medical examiner first appeared as a recurring character in the show’s first season, with Oka becoming a regular in Season 2. Before HAWAII FIVE-0, Oka spent four years on HEROES as kind-hearted time-and-space-bending Hiro Nakamura. He also appeared as tech geek Bruce in the big-screen GET SMART reboot. HAWAII FIVE-0 has been very good to CBS. For twelve years (1968-1980), actor Jack Lord played Steve McGarrett, the head of an elite team of the state’s special investigations. So it’s fitting that in resurrecting the franchise (an unsuccessful revival was attempted in 1997), the network would turn to an actor they’ve been very good to – Alex O’Loughlin. The Australian actor had previously starred for CBS in the short-lived 2007 series MOONLIGHT where he played a blood-sucker and in last year’s medical drama THREE RIVERS where he played a transplant surgeon.
