Exclusive Interview: Syfy Executive Mark Stern chats DEFIANCE

DEFIANCE, which has its first-season finale on Syfy Monday July 8 at 9 PM, is an unusual production. Its premise, which has seven alien races co-existing with humans on an Earth that has been transformed, allows for all sorts of storytelling, but what really sets it apart is that it has been developed in tandem with a Massive Multiplayer Online Game from Trion, also called DEFIANCE, that people have been playing since the show premiered back in April. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films recently held the 39th Annual Saturn Awards at The Castaway Starlight Ballroom in Burbank. It was a beautiful day and night high in the hills of Burbank. This award show is not televised, and honors a genre that the main award shows generally overlook. As SHARKNADO continues it forthcoming assault to the small screen courtesy of Syfy making its debut July 11 (check local listings), the interest, for better or worse, continues to expand towards pop culture world domination. The latest tease comes from Hulu which just unleashed a sequence from the film of the Santa Monica Pier being destroyed by the oncoming Sharknado. Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films held the World Premiere of THE LONE RANGER at Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland in Anaheim on June 22nd. Finally, after a very long wait, a super short SHARKNADO trailer has finally made its debut. Syfy has released their officially commercial spot for the trailer for the epic new disaster/shark film (check it out below) starring Tara Reid, Ian Ziering, John Heard and Cassie Scerbo which will make its debut on the network on Thursday, July 11 (check local listings for times).
