With “The Murder of One”, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES solves some old problems, but in doing so makes things even more complicated for our gang in Mystic Falls. At the end of last episode Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had the last pieces of the mystical white oak tree in the form of a Mystic Falls Bridge sign. The big plan is to make the sign into weapons then kill and original. Since all of the first vamps are linked; kill one and kill them all. Easy, right? Nothing is ever going to be that simple. And, nothing is ever going to be done without at least one or more of the main characters suffering as a result of their actions.

I feel the worst probably for Bonnie (Katerina Graham). She always seems like the most normal, adjusted, and down to earth of the girls. Sure she’s a witch, but she seems to be the only who really looks at situations logically instead of just running in with her heart on her sleeve. It’s tragic to see her break down in this episode. She’s lost so much since the series started. First her grandmother (Jasmine Guy) dies doing a spell, then Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) has to have his memory erased and has to be moved to a new town for his safety, and now her mom Abby (Persia White) gets turned into a vampire and books out of town since she can’t handle being a vamp with two grown kids. Now Bonnie is responsible for helping Klaus (Joseph Morgan) break the binding spell with his siblings.

Rebekah (Claire Holt) had to get her pound of flesh out of Damon this week of course. Holding him up with animal traps and stabbing him to drain him of Vervain so he could be compelled is a bit extreme, but the originals never do anything half way. I’m not sure about Rebekah. She seems to be a torn character. She wants love and acceptance from pretty much anywhere and it seems she is willing to do virtually anything to get it. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she is the one to end Klaus now that the blood bond between all of the originals is broken.

Speaking of….what an interesting development….you kill and original vamp…and all of their bloodline die as well. That throws a wrench into things. Looks like someone is going to have to get Katherine (Elena Dobrev) back to Mystic Falls so she can tell them how the vampire family tree works; otherwise if they off the wrong original it’s bye bye to all of our friendly neighborhood vampires.

We do know that there is at least one vampire that will more than likely die; Tyler (Michael Trevino) was made by Klaus so more than likely will wither and die when Klaus is ended. Or will he? Tyler is a hybrid so who knows what kind of rule govern their existence. Maybe he’ll just go back to being a werewolf?

And on a final note, can we please take his ring off and kill Alaric (Matthew Davis)? His bad self hid the white oak stake and now Stefan and Damon are going to be up the creek with Klaus? Really? Really? What a lame plot twist. It’s time for Alaric to go. This character is just becoming more of a prop than anything on the show…so send him off somewhere if you don’t want to kill him, but make him leave!
