The pacing of the last couple of SPARTACUS VENGEANCE episodes continues with “Sacramentum”. Instead of just skulking around the woods and killing off Romans (and yes rescuing people when the need calls for it) Spartacus (Liam McIntyre) decides to head to the ports and liberate some warriors who are being sold into slavery. The ship they overtake is full of Agron’s (Daniel Feuerriegel) people, so the scales look to tip towards his favor in terms of the size of the army. Of course after some bloodshed and a giant losing the front half of his face to Spartacus’ sword; everyone is one big happy family united against the Romans.

Let’s chat about the new army that Spartacus is amassing. This new lot has some pretty promising characters, not the least of which is the giant that sadly had to die to make everyone accept Spartacus as the leader of the entire clan. There’s a new warrior that is built like a fireplug and his muscles are scary big for his body. Plus there’s an awesome new warrior woman named Saxa (Ellen Hollman) who not only fights as well as a man, she also has no problems taking whatever man she wants for public sex! Although there was a bit of chick fighting when it really got down to her squaring off with Mira (Katrina Law). Not too much hair pulling and slapping but there was the potential for it.

What about Liam McIntyre’s physique? Has anyone else noticed that he doesn’t seem quite as cut as he was when the season started? I also noticed that they are putting more costume pieces on him. Is this in an attempt to cover up the fact that he’s not quite as buff as he was at the start of the season? I know what these actors go through to maintain their bodies and I know it’s a grueling workout for them, but I was just surprised that he doesn’t look quite as gladiator menacing as he used to.

Back over in Capua, Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) is still stuck in the greasy clutches of Ashur (Nick Tarabay), but at least she got a new red wig out of the deal. Lucretia is a painted snake and sooner or later she will strike and that will be the end of her servitude. Of course, I really need to see several deaths for Ashur not just one at the hands of Lucretia.

Glaber (Craig Parker) sends preggo Illithyia (Viva Bianca) off to Rome after a clever bit of deceit from the ladies of the house, and she ends up right in the bloody clutches of Gannicus (Dustin Clare). This is an exciting turn of events and I hope that Glaber takes this as a sign of the Gods’ punishing him for taking the inbred skank Seppia (Hanna Mangan Lawrence) to his bed.

So much blood and so much action as we race towards the final three episodes of this new season!
